Reinhold's "Die Nacht Liebe":  

The Night Love!  This set was recorded live on Glitch.fm, for PLF (Party Liberation Fronts) Crunkfederacy with Akasha (aka George Rollins).  I had been wanting to do a deep bass night time set for a while.  This is a particularly short set for me coming in under an hour - but has a pretty good feel overall I think.   People seemed to like it...usually a good judge of a set for me is if someone spinning fire texts you and says they are loving it while spinning (so thanks Sticky!).

      The banks of the James river in august are no joke,  It’s so freaking humid that it’s hard to see where the river actually starts.  It’s the middle of the night and there’s a thick haze over the brown, barely moving water. Only the most dedicated, daring fishermen dare brave these climes.  Here we are again, Ian Grahan & John Reinhold fishermen extraordinaire. As usual haven’t caught anything all night.  Real problem is nobody sells good beer this time of night, and we’ve only one left, a mighty stout, staring us down from the cooler. The empty bottles are stacked beside us, glinting in the light of the Richmond city skyline blinking at us through the hundred degree midnight fog, as the slow electronic drawl of RL Burnside wafts through ipod speakers.

     We hear a strange gurgling noise, then see puddling down the middle of the river a huge big pale catfish, It’s just chuggin’ along, the oddest sight, they’re bottom feeders you know, this one is clearly enlightened somehow.  It stops in the midpoint, in front of our lines, and croaks.  It croaks and the water around it starts to teem with catfish, hundreds, a wide swatch of catfish, it’s really boiling now, as a reddish green mass arises from the center. It is shaped kinda like a man, it stands on the catfish begins to march towards us across the backs of the now-howling chorus of catfish. 

	“Ain’t that some shit” I say to Ian kinda scared at this point,  “looks thirsty to me” Ian shrugging his shoulder, we nod to each other.  Ian grabs and heaves the bottle of barrel-aged booze out to this thing.  Not missing a beat, this damned swamp thing snatches this fine beer from the air, stares at us, then cracks it open and drinks real deep like.   A maw opens from what where would be it’s face down through it’s chest, the catfish suddenly all sing in a droning harmony that vibrates through our chest.  Our jaws drop and Ian pulls out his phone real slowly.   

What you’re about to hear is the only recording of the noises it uttered as it sank back into the muddy depths of the James.

PLF / Mischief / PEX - Naughty Snowball 5 

I was really excited to play some new tunes for the 5th Annual Snowball in DC!! Felt really good about this set, people seemed to dig it, and It ranges from chill to crunk, all over the BPM.  Lots of Banging Future Bass weird stuff.... 

Major props to all the Dj's I played with that night upstairs - Akasha, Kanizzle, Dubvirus, and Mr. Jennings.   Thanks for banging this one out with my DC / VA crew it was so much fun!!!!

Added a little intro and outtro this mix as well as one new track from a local Producer called RudeeBeatz.  I wanted to fit it all in this recreation. Hope you enjoy, Merry Stuff and Things!

Welcome to Wintry 4.0, I have been waiting to share this one with you.  This mix in particular is pretty unique overall even for a Wintry mix - It feels very Aphex Twin influenced to me.  I worked on this while it was snowing and then later into the cold winter night.  So it feels like there are two parts to me that are separated by Mr. Jennings track.  

The mix is as usual a soundscape of beautiful tracks and amazing producers.   I hope some of these tracks move you like they move me, and you take time to check out the producers that made them.  Thank you so much for your support!!

Reinhold's: Wintry 4.0 - Beacon Of Light

 Gallery 5 PLF Street "Fire" Show on First Friday 4/4/14 in Richmond Va.  

Party Liberation Front and friends put on a special street show with fire and performance live on the street and free to the public.  This unique and special event draws in a great crowds and brings fire performers from all around VA.  At these events I can really center on music that moves the performers and myself.  I try to cater the music and moments to lend themselves to great expression though the fire and performance.  Towards the end of this set it turned into a street party, so you can tell I started to play some heavier dance influenced party songs.  

I have lots of favorite songs in this mix I play out at these kinds of events.  I have been waiting quite some time to put a mix out that really represents me in my element.  I hope you enjoy this mix!

Reinhold:  Bass Driven 3.0

Its been a while since I followed up my Bass Driven series.  This mix is live from Stonehaven in Richmond, VA - part of the PLF family's meeting and chill spot.  This night was a gathering of people to talk about the upcoming Transformus festival.  It was a beautiful night with a nice full moon, a potluck dinner, beautiful people spinning fire and dancing, and big fire to enjoy while sharing stories.  After the meeting I set up my small system and got out my recorder as decided I would play for people and make it my next bass driven mix.  So here we are then!  

This mix is filled with bass driven house music and some breaks, and as usual some weird stuff here and there.  This needs to be really listened to on good headphones or speakers that can handle bass.  Its that kinda thing.  So I hope you enjoy it - feels right for the moody full moon filled with fire night!

Reinhold: Bass Driven 3.0

Swamp Thing Vol. 2 

This is the last correspondence of an unidentified individual found deep within the Pisgah National Forest. This audio tape is believed to be a final message, transcribed below, then followed by a spectrum of sounds we are still trying to decipher.

I came to consciousness with heavy trails of sweat collecting momentum that dripped down my entire face, dropped and plopped, mixing with the fading rain. It had been pouring for what seemed like days now, so a break in the drench was a blessing. Regardless, I was waterlogged, belly down in an endless pool of mud, head cocked to the side, gasping for giant gulps of air. I struggled to pull myself up but the moist earth oozed all around, teaming with gravity’s suction on my torso and appendages. I managed to turn my upper body, prop myself up on one shoulder, extend my arm out for anything. Reaching a little further I pull myself up to solid ground. The branches seemed to simultaneously reach for my hand as I made contact.

Now I'm leaning on a tree, fumbling with this recorder, amazed it still works. Trying to focus through the thick air is hard although my sight seems to be adjusting fairly rapidly, my brain is still racing, pounding to the throbbing beat. I spin around, slide back down. There are reflections of eyes in the grayness of the passing fog, barely catching whatever light from the moon that has been sucked into this bog. I can hear the slithering creatures all around me, the chirps, the clicks of thousands of insects.

They are all coming toward me, getting louder and louder. The roots have risen from the ground grasping for me. The deep puddles are gurgling, bubbling and oozing everywhere like muddy lava streams. More eyes and scales appear from the slime, watching as vines twist around my body, completely wrapping my arms and legs. Patches of leaves and moss are sprouting in random spots. I am breathing in a new way. My bones are growing, changing shape. Skin stretches over my new form. I rise, blink rapidly, fully adjusting with new vision to the primal celebration before me. I reach out with what once were arms to it embrace it all. I am becoming. I am...home.

*I recommend some serious speakers or headphones for this one.  Lots of sub bass and tribal drums, plus my first time mixing in some D&B.  I hope you enjoy this deep muddy stuff...

This wintry mix is dedicated to our friend Ian Graham who passed last year, but lives on forever through all of us that he showed friendship and love.  Wintry mixes for me have always been about the beautiful music that inspire me from various producers throughout the year.  This one in particular is special because the songs have specific meaning to moments in time shared with Ian.  Its more of a full dedication to Ian specifically put together by title (just look at track list) and overall feel.  Plus some tracks have a unique flavor with some 808’s and deep sounds that I know he would dig. It was not easy to get though this one -  maybe overall its a mediation, maybe this is for healing, maybe its  memories put to sound, or perhaps its my way of saying goodbye.  ; )

Wintry 2025 ❄️

FINALLY - It's been years in the making, but the snow finally timed out perfect. Easily my most ambitious Wintry Mix to date. I put my everything into this, so many tempo and pitch shifts, so many freaking cue points, so much emotion. These tracks are so beautiful......  

Wintry 2025 is meant to uplift, it's about change, its about love and loss, its about overcoming, letting go and opening back up. Wintry 2025

Wintry 6.0 Snow Angel - Part One Updated! 

Here it is Wintry 6.0!  Worked all weekend on this mix, during the Snowmageddon of 2016 on the east coast.   This mix is dedicated to my daughter Lana, I wrote the first track (a piano piece)for her. 

This mix should be more whimsical and light hearted than 5.0.  Plenty of parts to dance with -  Lana really loved dancing to much of it, and that light and love inspired it.  For this mix I really wanted to feature many of the local people, and friends making amazing tracks as they influence me greatly.  Lots of genre's here (Bands, Indie, D&B, House, Electronic, bass, glitch, etc), its all over the BPM so it was a fun challenge.  I hope you enjoy!!

Bacon & Eggs Mix

Transfomus 2016 - Lake Burn set!!  

So there we are Friday at Transfomus at PLF camp with the sun setting - Lake Burn is happening soon, people are preparing for that.  Some are working on lighting up camp.  So I started playing some tunes just to have something on while we prepared.  I noticed the lake burn had let out earlier than expected.  People were gathering and many were working various fire toys or practicing - getting ready for the night.   Akasha was due to play after the lake burn, but he told me go ahead and keep going "warm them up for me!".  When George (@akasha-1) says that you -- well you just got to deliver the bass to get them ready for his set.   Thats how this impromptu set happened, often for me those are some of the best moment.  This mix starts out kinda chill and moves into various bass movements - it started out a amazing night at PLF Camp.  

I really like this one, great for dancers and fire-spinners, hope you enjoy!

These StrangeDays 

Its has been a while since I have put a mix up, so very excited to share this very dark mix.   Warning!  This is way more of a soundtrack for a horror film or something, its not exactly a dance mix 100%.  But people seemed to like it when I played it live on air with Orgongee Chamber - so lets go dark and weird then.   

This mix is very influenced by Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross, X Files, Stranger Things, and soundtracks and industrial music overall.   I had been finding some really unusually dark tracks I wanted to mess with.  Also some new sounds that have been influencing me lately down this path.   

I have always wanted to do a soundtrack to a sci-fi / horror film  -- so this is kinda a go at it.  It started with finding the Stranger Things remix and just kinda grew from that point.  I don't know how very dance oriented it is, but some songs really have some great floor appeal but have dark elements.  Its a soundscape for sure of dark vibes, aliens conspiracies, men in black, rogue heroes and dark forests.  

I hope it freaks you out, but most of all I hope you enjoy!

Finally here it is, I worked so hard on this sunrise wintry morning set.  Harder than any of the previous ones I have done, It feels very massive to me when I listen to it (so I hope thats good).  It has so many songs that really move me, lots of singer songwriter feels.  I just had to figure how to work it out for these 32 tracks without leaving out any tracks I really wanted.  “The Sun Also Rises” - has quite a few meanings to my life and its all in here somehow.  It really makes me feel the love — I hope it does the same for you.  It has lots of layers to some of these songs, so if you have good headphones or speakers you can really feel the vibe. This set is my live set from Gallery 5's Anniversary event - our big PLF street fire and art show.  I was very excited to mark my 12 years of playing music at Gallery 5!!  I played the very first event in 2005 at the opening event for the gallery.   You will hear me open the set by talking a bit about it -- and then getting into the music and fire.  

So much fun!  I get really inspired by having live performers to play for -- and of course my favorite is to do this for fire performance.   Thank you so much for the support.   I hope you enjoy this set!

Live at "VOLTAGE" Rooftop Set

Excited to share this set from "Voltage"  - this was a very special event and fundraiser for Diversity Richmond & Party Liberation Foundation.  This was an event I worked on with Samual Roukin from the show hit show "Turn".  What a fantastic night it was, great crowd and great sets from all.  100% Benefit to the non profits, and lots of great artist!  

This set was my 1st set the warm up set on Hofheimer building rooftop (so beautiful!).  I tried to play a very big vibey set that goes from house music into bass moving house and breaks, then it VIBES out big time at the end to get the crowd really moving.  People seemed to like it a lot -- so I am happy to get it up.  Its kinda a old school Reinhold set with elements of house music throughout.  I hope you enjoy!!

REINHOLD - Kinda Wintry Mix 2.0 

So here is my official Kinda Wintry Mix 2.0 .  We didn't really see much of a winter here in Richmond, but got dusted around Feb. 19th.  So I set out to finish a second Wintry mix since a lot of people liked the 2010 Wintry Mix.  Once again this mix has extremely beautiful tracks from some of my favorite producers.  Often these tracks don't get played out except for very unique events and special sets.  There are some real "chill bangers" here... haha  

This ended up being a difficult mix for me because of all the key changes and tempo changes, but I worked at it and this is the final edit.   Playing through a whole mix thats over 1:30 minutes long can be tough but rewarding.  I hope you like this mix, its very emotional and probably more like a soundtrack than a Dj mix.

FINALLY here we are.  2017 pushed me to my limit, its was a trying year and this mix reflects it.  Lots of different sounds here, lots of beautiful wintry sounds as always - mixed with some real heavy emotional tracks that are kinda dark for a wintry mix.  I certainly worked some things out here.  Oh use good system or good headphones listening to this - makes a huge difference. 

This mix runs through more D&B than ever before from me, has future bass, hip hop, ambient, dub, folk, theatre, glitch, creative soundscapes, and maybe one or two housey songs.  Much different and deeper in some ways than other years, a real reflection of my past year.

So here we are Wintry 9.0, this is dedicated to our lovely Mama Duck Sienna Fennell.  Sienna fought one of the bravest fights I have ever seen.  She somehow was able to make everything so beautiful in her passing.  I hope to honor her memory, bare my grief and my soul through it.  It was not possible to make this mix in the Winter with everything going on. Something made we wait, something kept it back.  It was trough reading S. Preston Duncan's poem "Burnt Sienna" and sitting by Sienna in the end that I felt I had to do this.  A tough one for sure, but underneath it there is a lot of hope -  we are so connected through energy & love.

Wintry Mix 3.0: YOU (1.5 hrs)

I collect beautiful tracks all year with the excitement of knowing when it snows I will start on my wintry mix.  There is so much great music that does not get played out at parties, so these mixes give me a chance to share so of these tracks.  I have had lots of people support me in making these Wintry mixes - so a big thank you for your support its one of the reasons I enjoy doing it so much.    

The mix is a soundscape overall that makes me think of my loved ones - past and present, its truly for you.   There are some really emotional ambient tracks that really move me, I can't wait for you to hear.   I hope they move you as well and you check out the producers music.  I still have so much more that could go into another mix - so maybe another one is on the way before too long.   Hopefully you will enjoy listening to this mix - its great for a fiery night, travels, yoga, or just casual listening.

I have been wanting to make a heavy minimal/tech mix for some time.  This is as techno and minimal as I have ever made for a mix.  Something different for sure.... 

This one specifically is was made for Capitol City Podcast.  Lots of Reinhold favorites here I spin out at burns, for very special crowds, and on various First Fridays events.  Mozarts music if of course is the inspiration in this mix - though many of the tracks are from various other composers.  I hope you enjoy this mix. This mix is from the Live Stream of The PLF Wintry Essential Mix live with @gonofficial & @akasha-1.   This event was a special live stream with full green screen captures, live fire, and various snow and fire elements.  For the essential mix I played some of my favorite tracks from years past along with some new additions.  Its been over 10 years of these mixes. Reinhold's Essential Wintry Mix LIVE 2020

This is an exact replica of my opening set for RJD2  June 21st 2013 at Canal club.  It comes in at 37 minutes and about 15 songs.    This is a mix of various funky future bass music.  Really magical night with Evil J, Rometti, RjD2, and the whole EQ gang (love those guys!!).  People really seemed to like the set, its all over the place.  Hope you enjoy it!
