This is an XG MIDI sequence I wrote almost exactly six years ago. This is the kind of stuff I used to make before I got into NSFs and chiptunes in general, way back in the days.

So I went to a friend's place and he showed me a bit of Spelunky gameplay. I liked what I saw, but I liked what I heard even more. One thing led to another, and this cover was brought into existence. It took me about 2 hours from blank FTM to completed cover, much - I think - to my friend's amazement.

This is, as always, a hardware render of the tune, played using a TNS-HFC3 device with a Lagrange Point cartridge.

Spelunky - Mines B

April 13th was my very good friend Walex's birthday, and I realised to my horror that I did not have any present for him! So I opened Famitracker and got cracking. This was the result.

This is basically me taking the traditional "Happy Birthday" tune and giving it my own twist by turning it into a three-part waltz with a trio in the middle. The last part combines the main theme with "Gens du pays", a song by Quebecois artist Gilles Vigneault, which sometimes substitutes the traditional tune (albeit with slightly different lyrics) here in my home province of Quebec.

This track uses the Konami VRC7 chip, and as always, this is a hardware render using the TNS-HFC3 device with a Lagrange Point cartridge.

Joyeux Wanniversaire !

This is an old OHB entry of mine, written on July 21, 2012 between 8:15 PM and 9:15 PM. It's pretty short, but I really dig the chord progression I managed to come up with. The sound design is surprisingly satisfying, considering I only used default instruments from the VRC7 set.

The restriction for this battle was "overuse suspended chords".

As always, this is a hardware recording using the TNS-HFC3 device and a Lagrange Point cartridge for VRC7 audio.

Graveyard

Yet another Battle of the Bits OHB entry of mine. This one was written on March 5, 2014 between 1:14 AM and 2:14 AM. This is one of the few OHB entries (and indeed one of the few originals of mine in general) with which I am fully satisfied; it seems appropriate, then, that this received a score of 35.000 on Battle of the Bits, the maximum score an entry can receive, and which is only possible if every voter gives it a 7 out of 7.

The theme/restriction for this battle was: "Make a cheesy soundtrack for a strange situation".

As usual, this was recorded on a Famicom using the TNS-HFC3 device and a Just Breed cartridge for MMC5 audio.

Time Ticking Backwards

My remake of my own "iconic" tune, for the C64 SID model 8580. This was created using a private alpha release of Deflemask.

Rael Adventures - C64 remake

This is a cover I originally made in July 2012 for the fifth edition of my own contest series at the Famitracker forums, called Demo Compo. This contest prompted users to submit covers that used the VRC6 sound expansion. To my surprise, I won! So if you download Famitracker, you'll find the source file for this amongst the demo tunes that come with the program.

I later submitted the NSF to the covers section of Famicompo Mini 9, and came second.

I spent a total of about 14 hours, concentrated in two days, making this cover. It seems to have been received fairly well within the community, receiving praise from Alberto José González himself!

This recording was made on a real Famicom with a real VRC6 (using a Japanese copy of Castlevania III for expansion sound) via the TNS-HFC3 device.

Plok! - Creepy Crag (2A03 + VRC6 cover)

Another oldie! This one is an OHC - or One-Hour Competition - entry I made a few months ago that got 1st place (out of disappointingly few entries). I still very much like it, and so do many of those who heard it so far, so I thought I'd share it here.

Unlike Creepy Crag, this isn't a hardware recording, due to the Namco 163 sound chip's frustrating tendency to ruin people's ear drums when all eight of its sound channels are activated.

Not The Final Boss (C64 remake)

This is more or less the spiritual successor to Raël Adventures (Claude Vorilhon is Raël's real name.)

This is another BotB One-Hour Compo - the first Turbografx-16 OHC in a while - which I won. I'm quite pleased with how it came out. The theme was "write a simple platformer game overworld theme".
