“But Beautiful” was composed by Jimmy Van Heusen and Johnny Burke in 1947. It was introduced by Bing Crosby in the movie Road to Rio. But Beautiful has been a favorite of pop and jazz vocalists for generations. Billie Holiday included her gorgeous version in her amazing album Lady in Satin. It has also been recorded by Tony Bennett, Bill Evans, Barbra Streisand, Shirley Horn and Stan Getz among others.

The list includes Tony Bennett, Nat King Cole, Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra, Ben Webster, Nina Simone, Thelonious Monk and, of course, Duke Ellington himself.
