This is a playlist of some of the tunes that I wrote for a now-defunct band. The audio tracks are the ‘demos’ I recorded for the band to get a feel of the tunes, chords & structures. The solo sections were left ‘empty’ so that the players could try throwing a few shapes over them prior to rehearsals!

I've also used some of these tunes with sax students to help them get used to soloing over changes.

The band for which I wrote these tunes broke up before we could play Blowing Turmeric Off The Gravel.
Once again, it’s essentially a standard form tune – intro, couple of times round the head, solos, reprise of head. The solo section I divided between the sax in the first part and a much rockier second solo for one of the band’s two guitarists, John Calcutt, who is an ace stunt guitarist (as he once described himself).

This is a demo I made of a tune I wrote for a now defunct band, outlining the head, solo section and song structure for the other players.
The tune itself is fairly straightforward, though there are some triplet runs that need a bit of care, and for tenor players (like me) there’s a bit of left-hand palm key work to keep tidy. Fortunately for alto players, their lead-sheet is written a fourth lower!

Jon Seagroatt plays variously bass, flute, soprano & tenor saxes, bass clarinet, percussion, keyboards, electronics and the occasional bit of wobbly trombone with a variety of ensembles and groups that have included Comus, Current 93, Red Square, B So glObal & Circuit.
He also works as a session player, recording engineer and producer. In one or another of the above guises, Jon has toured, recorded and performed in Britain, Europe and the Far East.
