Philadelphia-based bassist/producer/engineer, Johann Sebastian explores the relationship between plants & music with his new ambient electronic single, "Primary Perception". The 2 min soundscape was created during the dark days of the pandemic as Johann experimented with semi-modular synthesizers, inspired to create new sounds in tune with the peaceful rituals of plant care. Johann says,  "It's about that connection we share with plants, how they feel us and we can feel them, and the peace you can feel when you acknowledge and live in awareness of their presence; the primary perception that connects us."

Get ready for heavy kicks, 2-step rhythms that make you want to dance, synth ambiance, and the signature bass that drove the evolution of house music in 90s-00s London.

Johann Sebastian started experimenting with the sounds of UK Garage in the summer of 2022 through a series of original tracks and remixes of popular and local Philadelphia artists. This music marks a full-circle moment for Johann, as the sounds of UK Garage first caught his attention when a college roommate introduced him to the genre in the early 2000s. Johann is heavily influenced by garage hits from The Streets, MJ Cole, and Daniel Bedingfield, as well as British artists from that time who were inspired by London's club scene, such as Radiohead and the Gorillaz. The swinging, syncopated rhythms of jazz samples and production by A Tribe Called Quest and J Dilla had initially drawn Johann into Hip-Hop production. Now, the swung rhythms of UK Garage provide an open canvas for creative rhythm, groove, and deep feel.

“More Power”, the title track of Johann Sebastian's EP, sets the tone for the rest of the collection with its groovy 2-step drums, vocal chops, and rolling bass that guide the listener through a dark ambiance. This is Johann's first single in this style, and he invites you to join him on a journey of pushing boundaries and experimenting with new sounds, just as The Streets did. “Let’s push things forward!” The track challenges the listener to embrace progression, both in terms of the sound and the message it conveys. The steady evolution of the beat keeps the listener engaged and wanting more. More Power is a call to action, urging us to keep moving forward and to not be afraid of experimenting and taking risks with our music.

“Say Cheese”, started as a remix of Bad Bunny's hit Tití Me Preguntó. This track seamlessly blends the sounds of London UKG with the rhythm and energy of the original Puerto Rican track. The groovy 2-step drums and rolling bass drive the beat forward while bell-like synths give the track a dark ambience. Say Cheese is a perfect example of Johann Sebastian's ability to blend different genres and cultures to create something truly special and exciting. "Hard to Believe" was born as a remix to SiR's RnB track "Nothing Even Matters." The song takes the soulful and introspective original and infuses it with a new energy and vibe. The beat is built around a repetitive, rising organ line that sets the tone for the song and is complemented by thumping drums and a deep, driving bass.

The three tracks on More Power are just the beginning of an ever-growing catalog of Johann’s dance tracks. The EP includes a dub mix of More Power to encourage collaboration with DJs and other artists. Listeners can relax, read or work to these instrumental versions.

Circles is the debut EP from Philadelphia based producer, artist and multi-instrumentalist, Johann Sebastian. 

Mostly a beat EP, it contains two songs featuring Ali Miller (FKA Truck North), Thee!General and Margel the Sophant, and 7 instrumental hip-hop tracks.
