With the game's primeval setting, any modern-sounding instruments would be out of place in the score. This limited the sound palette to woodwinds, percussion, vocals, and amorphous ambientish synth sounds. The structure of the game demo required three different intensity levels for the main loop, menu loop, and narrative loop for the fragments when the player interacts with the distant, mysterious voices telling them something.

Rest In Peace Eddie... In tribute to him here is my humble attempt at his most famous guitar solo that changed everything for rock guitar...

Edward Van Halen changed my life like for so many others. As a kid I heard his guitar solo on Michael Jackson’s “Beat it” and I was instantly hooked. I wanted to play guitar. That is how it started for me. I bought all the records VH had till then and especially on the first record there was this magical 1:40 minutes that blew me totally away: Eruption. What’s in a word, eh? Total sonic madness, like alien music, but with a swing, blues and feel to it, to end up in this ecstatic end section climbing to a classical arpeggio climax that no one at that time knew how he pulled it off. Total innovation of the electric rock guitar by a 21 year old boy really. In every way, from guitar to it’s mechanical and electrical parts, to how it’s sound was projected, blasting at full throttle, and even the look of the guitar, with the signature stripes, it was new, fresh and exiting. Most of all the music was fun and optimistic unlike most rock acts by that time. Eddie brought the smile back in Rock. He influenced every guitar player after him. It even felt awkward to use Eddie’s fingertapping technique, as it was such a signature of his playing style, it is to this day immediately associated with him.

I have Eruption in rotation in my exercise repertoire, it is so so hard to play, a lesson in ... well just about everything on the electric guitar. Of course I can not touch Ed’s version, but I play this for the love of his music and for him, for making the soundtrack of my earliest musical years. Thank you Eddie... For everything...
