Originally I set out to put together a purely ambient/chill mix, but it started to evolve the minute I put cursor to grid. What an honor to play for the legendary MAXA at my 11th burn… and it nearly didn’t happen. When I arrived, I could see rainclouds in the distance. Thankfully, the winds changed, and after a mad dash of teamwork to get the car set up, we kicked off 2025’s burn in style… and in true playa fashion, we were rewarded with the serendipitous arrival of El Pulpo Mechanico almost immediately after I played my first song. Fantastic.

In 2006, when the borders of progressive house were starting to blur and music started melting into the digital sphere, Balance 010 arrived with almost monastic ambition.

Disc 2 is the heart of Balance 010, the warm midtempo arc that gives the entire three-disc structure its emotional weight. It rises slowly from ambient drift into soft breakbeats, glides through Cocteau Twins shimmer and Speedy J tension, and lands in that hypnotic space where Boards of Canada, Ellen Allien, Aphex Twin and Underworld all feel like parts of the same world. 

Critics consistently pointed to this disc as the most replayable, the most cinematic, the place where Jimmy’s instinct for mood and narrative became unmistakable. It moves without forcing momentum, deepens without darkening, and closes on a fourteen-minute Underworld remix that turns the whole project into a pilgrimage. 

If Balance 10 has a centre of gravity, Disc 2 is it.
