Atmospheric DnB & Jungle: A tribute to Good Looking Records

Every two months for the last three years myself, @Simon-Murphy and @AaronStatic have been heading down to a little nightclub in Melbourne called Loop and putting on a dedicated prog and tech night we like to call @Prog-nosis. What started out as a small event with a handful of close friends has slowly progressed into one of my favourite events in Melbourne. Not only has it given us a platform to play some of our favourite styles of electronic music, but it's also seen us house some of Australia's finest progressive and techno artists, with a small selection of some renowned international acts. Needless to say it's been one hellova ride and set the stage for some absolutely unforgettable nights.

On February 15th 2014 we celebrated our third birthday. Simon, Aaron and myself decided to put together a retrospective mix comprising of some of our favourite Prognosis tunes from the past three years. This is my third of the mix. Obviously due to the mix only being 40 minutes long this is just a small snapshot of some of my favourite tunes  - but I think it does well in capturing the vibe of Prognosis. Anyway, really hope you guys enjoy it! :)

Massive thanks to everyone who has shown us support, come to our parties and listened to our music. We honestly would be nowhere without you. Here's to another three years!! :D

Prognosis 3rd Birthday Retrospective

After catching up with DJ Mag Australia for a Q&A in their Local Artist feature series (http://vic.djmag.com.au/blog/2014/04/02/spotlight-j-slyde/) I was also lucky enough to be invited to contribute to their homegrown podcast series. Feeling pretty honored, and motivated by some of the other fantastic podcasts in the series, I really wanted to offer up something special. I spent a good few months amassing all of the music, then a further month piecing it all together, going to extra lengths in cutting up and reassembling a handful of the tracks, along with heaps of looping and sampling to help make things as cohesive as possible. It travels through various styles, centering around a housey 4/4 beat with hints of prog and tech peppered about. Loosely attempting to convey the breaking up of a relationship, it starts out with a hint of melancholy and slowly progresses into a more upbeat, happier vibe – ebbing and flowing just as one would throughout a breakup. I’ve based it around a few vocal pieces that all follow the theme in an attempt to provide somewhat of a loose narrative. Anyway, I very much hope it resonates well with you all!

Technosis Promo - April 2015

The Doesn't Matter krew had me on for the June 20th edition of their Locals Matter series. After the live recording was ruined due to a technical malfunction (read: RCA cable coming unplugged), I decided to re-record the set.

Had so much playing to such an amazingly responsive crowd, and as I don't usually get to play this kind of peak-time style, I found it really enjoyable being out of my comfort zone for the evening.

A bit about the mix...
Somewhat of a follow up to my 'For The Sun' mix I did for Mahala a while back, it contains a collection of music that makes me think of summer - lots of upbeat melodies, luscious piano rolls, and a few vocal based tunes thrown in for good measure. I put it together at the end of what seemed like an endless winter and used the music to channel those warmer months. 

Hopefully it can conjure up some similar feelings :)

Playing at Rainbow Serpent Festival was unbelievable. One of the most enjoyable sets I have ever played and easily the best "festival" I have ever had the honor of attending.

Thankyou so much to everyone that got up early on Saturday morning to catch my set. It meant the absolute world to me and words can't describe how much fun I had up there. <3

Special thanks go out to the whole Big Red Bus krew who were SO amazingly friendly from the minute I stepped back stage. It really helped to make the experience that much more enjoyable. And of-course a huge high-five goes out to everyone involved with Rainbow Serpent, with a special mention to Thad Lester for the booking.

A lot of sleepless hours and grumpy nights went into preparing this bad-boy - something my beautiful girlfriend felt the brunt of more than she should have. The last tune is a dedication to her for putting up with my shit in the lead-up. <3

Anyways, I really hope you can enjoy the set as much as I did playing it. Preferably on a very loud sound-system with a tasty beverage in hand ;) Peace!

Well what can we say..... Not sure whether it's our impeccable judgement here at Morning After (we like to think so), but we seem to have one legend of the scene after another, joining us to deliver an insanely good mix for their personal version of the Morning After podcast. A Break From Space

This mix was for a podcast series I was planning to start called 'Something Different'. The idea was that it would kickstart the series, but life got in the way and it was put on the backburner. I figure, rather than it collecting dust on my hard drive, it would be put to better use inside of peoples earholes.

It floats around a downtempo vibe covering ambient, jazz, straight up orchestral pieces, electronica, beats and much more. I challenged myself to include music I wouldn't normally play in a traditional chill mix, so there are some abstract pieces throughout. I hope it assists in making it an interesting listening experience!

Summer is hands-down my favourite season. Negating the fact my apartment has no AC, I pretty much love everything about it. The seasonal-shift coming out of the colder months is easily the best part. The injection of vitamin D is cleansing. Everyone starts to smile, outside activities become the norm, beer gardens pack out, the beach becomes your home away from home and ice-cream becomes a food group.

With this in mind, I took up the task of putting together my offering for the Mahala Podcast series. Every piece of music I’ve included on the mix either makes me think of summer, is a tune I discovered during the warmer months, or is stuff that I feel benefits from being listened to in a sun-drenched setting.

Attempting to capture the allure of this beautifully sunny season was incredibly enjoyable and I really hope that it can illicit some similar feelings to those listening.
