Holidays on secluded beaches; long hikes up a mountain to catch the sunset; an unforgettable meal at a restaurant on the square: her preferred means of escaping reality had become impossible over the last year. Now she relied on her imagination to whisk her away. She closed her eyes and pictured herself somewhere free from the pressures of daily life; the waves gently lapping at her feet, the wind rustling her hair and the sun streaming down on her face.

For his debut release on Loose Fit Records, Leipzig-based producer Planetary Secrets explores themes of escapism, translating his personal take on what escaping reality means to him. Conjuring up fantastical feelings of nostalgia and imagined worlds throughout, the opener, 90s rave-inspired 'Guatemala Dreams', transports listeners into dense jungle, while B-side, 'Burning Fist', is a love letter to vintage video games, specifically Tekken. These two original cuts are backed up by remixes from Lobster Theremin affiliate Pépe and Breaka Recordings boss, Breaka.

PREMIERE : 95Bones - Bayonet Cap

Harrison BDP services up four variations of 2-step on a release that highlights the producer's knack for crafting colourful dreamscapes whilst having his finger on the pulse of contemporary dance music.

‘Shuto Expressway’ channels the visual stimulation of driving through the Japanese expressways of Tokyo from which the track is named; dubby basslines, well placed vocal samples and a genuine feeling of serenity makes for a sunny stepper.

‘Anti Lag’ is an electro-garage mutation; screw-face wubs, grimey strings and melodic pads creating the perfect accompaniment as day turns to night, while the familiar vocal samples and garage-skank energy of ‘Rhythm Is Key’ deepens the groove. 

Wriggling acid lines and subdued textures show us the door on ‘Bad Habits’, floating back towards electro-step territory with that signature BDP otherworldliness.

The steadily brilliant French producer Nathan Melja - who's made the rounds between choice outlets over the past half decade, from Mister Saturday Nights to Antinote, via Ninja Tune offshoot Technicolour and Opal Tapes, seems to have learnt Bruce Lee's lesson by heart, and his seamlessly fluid, no-nonsense debut foray on KOC is here to potently cement his status as one of Europe's number one club trailblazers, and one that knows all too well how to turn any dancefloor into an infinity pool of pure liquid euphoria.

Drawing its name from the physiological and psychological process that results in a confusion of one's sensory perceptions, 'Synesthesia' is indeed the kind of club single that shall trigger off massive reaction amongst right-minded bipeds and chromakey house suckers. Straightforward club business done right, Melja's original is a vivid kaleidoscope of skittish drums, swampy bass stabs and a well-rounded, supremely curvy synthwork, tailored to take ravers on a flash journey through space and time without the help of Richard Branson or Elon Tusk (pun intended).

Called in on remix duty, TTT affiliate and Incienso co-founder Anthony Naples delivers a more fragmented and ambientish variation, though functional and club-ready in its own right. Brushing even wider verbed-out pad tapestries for your brain to wander in, the track expands to deeper organic horizons with a field-depth that can not but recall that of the KLF and Bochum Welt's emotional soundscaping. Meanwhile, Karenn half Pariah takes care of whelming us deep into more techno-friendly terrains, true to his ever masterly touch for epic buildups and multi-level textural innovation, bringing up the acidic phlegm of Melja's original as he treats us to a carefully orchestrated ballet of synthetic whorls, contemplative chords and propulsive drum programming.

In a wild flurry of primal rage and intoxication, she’d approached the venue hours earlier, flung her coat and bag in a nondescript location and launched herself at the dance floor. As the hours ticked on and her senses reemerge, the coin drops and her face implodes with concern. “…I’ll be back”. Edging towards the door whilst unwanted and unwarranted male attention attempts to set its claws in, she wraps up the conversation for the sixth time and manages to leave the room. As she retraces steps and does her best impression of her inebriated self, she systemically checks each pitch black corner and crevice for her mostly dark and featureless possessions. As she clambers over outstretched legs and through condensed groups of people lacking even the most basic levels of social awareness, worry spreads across her face. “What on earth are you doing?” a voice says whilst prodding her shoulder. She turns around to find her mate, carrying her bag, coat, half a cloakroom ticket stub and a bemused expression on her face.

JORDAN ANNOUNCES ‘FROM BELFAST WITH LOVE’ – EXCLUSIVE, CURATED NOCTURNE CHARITY COMPILATION FEATURING BELFAST ARTISTS - PHIL KIERAN, CARLTON DOOM, EJECA, T-BONE & MORE

As a city, Belfast has always been regarded as having electronic music output of the highest calibre. In parallel with cities across the globe right now, the club scene has sadly ground to a halt, yet as this compilation shows, the music has by no means slowed down.

100% of profits from the compilation will be donated to Trussell Trust. The trust is working with local communities to establish a food bank network right across the UK and to do so as fast as possible. This is crucially important with so many families experiencing the effects of poverty than ever due to the current COVID-19 crisis.

The compilation drops on Bandcamp on 1st May. Bandcamp will be waiving their fees on this date, and artists have kindly given their time for free. The compilation is available for £5, but if you can afford to donate further, this would be kindly appreciated.

She'd never taken another person up here, it was her special place where she came to escape everything. But he seemed different to everyone else; she wanted to let him on her secret.

Moscow's ИДА (IDA) return for another instalment of breakbeats and wonky dance floor cuts, this time from Russian producer Moonoton. Alongside two original cuts that bring a blend of breaks, voodoo vocal samples and Italo synths, the release is backed up by two remixes from Facets and St Petersburg-based producer Maruwa, who adds her signature touch, balancing heavy breaks with dreamy, celestial atmospheres.
