This piece was written all on a DAW, which is highly unusual for me. It was inspired by the concept of the game "Stranded Deep", which was making the rounds at the time.

It uses one theme, and gradually builds into a jarring modulation.

This voluntary was written for the organist of Peterborough Cathedral, Chris Strange. This recording is from the premiere of the work on 10th July 2024 in Peterborough Cathedral, played by its dedicatee.

Adsurge Sol! (live)

Adapted from a verse of the Latin Hymn "Corde Natus", more commonly known in the English speaking world as "Of The Father's Heart Begotten", this short anthem describes the elation that the Virgin Mary had upon the annunciation. 

The music is in the G Mixolydian mode - one which I particularly enjoy the resonance of - and I paid particular attention to the climactic phrase "Psallat altitudo caeli" (Sing to the heights of heaven), where the tessiturae of all the voices goes high to bring home the effect.

This piece is based around the Sussex folksong "Of Hills and Ploughshares", collected by Bob Copper. It demonstrates my connection to the countryside of my home county, and my appreciation for the pastoral and folk music.

A setting of the Triolet by Thomas Hardy. The forces are Soprano, Double Bass, and Piano. This performance was in May 2019 by Vanessa Frampton (soprano), Carolina Cury (Piano), and Manuel dell'Oglio (Double Bass).

After fiddling around with the excellent Spitfire Labs Soft Piano, I came up with this. It's the first time I've delved into a kind of ambient sound world, and I'm quite pleased with how this little piece turned out.

Recorded in early 2019, this is a choral introit setting of words from the Gospel of St John - it was premiered by the Old Royal Naval College Trinity Laban Chapel Choir on 19th May 2019, conducted by Ralph Allwood MBE, who both feature in this recording.

I've been missing the sounds of real woodwinds lately, so I've had to make do with these: the lovely sounds of the Berlin Woodwinds.

It's a little chorale that I knocked out in basically half an hour, and was more to prove to myself that I can work virtual instruments just as I can notation on a page! It's partly inspired by one of the promenades from Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition, as orchestrated by Ravel.
