The Day Was Not Ready for Darkness

The day was not ready for darkness    It did not want to forfeit the light
But then the moon made the day a promise  That it would reflect the sun’s light at night

The day thought it over for a moment     And decided to accept the moon’s plan
That night with encroachment of darkness     The moon rose to shine on the land
For several nights the day was happy      Everything was going as planned
But, soon the moon lost  interest      And went hiding at the day’s end

The day was not ready for darkness    When the day was replaced by the night
Without the light there is darkness    And without the darkness there’s light

What has happened, asked the day      Why has the moon neglected the task?
Now, the darkness has taken over       And covers the earth like a mask

“Here I am”, said the moon      As the sun set in the sky.
“I didn’t want to go hiding       But, the sun was blinding my eye”.

“I was hidden by the earth’s shadow        Which will happen every now and then
You see, I will go through phases      Now I’m feeling brighter again”.
