What do you do when you have a collection of Edits that have been working amazingly in your own sets and you're constantly being bugged by friends and fans about getting hold of them. Well, if you're Pets Recordings bosses Catz 'n Dogz you contact the original artists and agree an inclusion in a special new series of vinyl releases through the label... Welcome to PETS EDITS. 

001 is the Catz 'n Dogz Edit of Blue Hawaii's 'Try To Be'. A track that has received an incredible response when played out and through their official soundcloud stream. Canadian duo Blue Hawaii have been releasing music since 2010 but it was their Untogether album from 2012 that really announced them on the world stage. Recorded throughout the Vancouver and Montreal Winter and Spring the album was said to reflect the vast world of self-awareness and delicacy. 

Try To Be instantly stood out for Catz 'n Dogz and became a firm ipod favourite on their global travels. A little tinkering and soon the guys had a version for their sets. The perfect blessing came from the band themselves who contacted the pair to let them know how much they liked it. 

Staying true to the original, Catz 'n Dogz underpin the Guitar line and beautifully melancholic vocals of Ra with a crisp understated 4/4 beat. 

On the flip and an exclusive vinyl only cut is the Catz 'n Dogz Edit of Shinedoe's 'Pure Groove'. Taking last years Bpitch Control original, the boys stripped it of its original synth breaks and sharpened it with a techier edge for their own sets. its been a fan favourite ever since and perfect track to kick off the Pets Edits series.

I can't think of a better way to celebrate DIRTYBIRD's 10 year anniversary than by releasing 14 great tracks that I fully support. There’s no fluff in here. Everyone from our amazing talent pool has delivered their A game material. And l have also added a few great new names to the family. 

It’s hard to believe that this little project started in my bedroom in the Lower Haight, San Francisco 10 years ago. I can distinctly remember hand stamping vinyl promos at home with my friend Fernando and trying to figure out the best way to mail them to Europe.  I remember the very first guy to ever call me back about our music was Edgar Dirksen in Frankfurt, Germany, who was working at a now defunct distributor called Neuton.  This was the only place that would agree to sell our records back in 2005 and I still thank him for taking the chance on us. 

There have been many many people involved since the beginning. Special thanks to all who have helped me run the shop at different times such as my wife Aundy, Mike Bosley, Christian Martin, Adam Carter, Sharen Norden, Bryan James,  Luke Williams, Jonathan McDonald, Alastair Duncan and Stacey Gamble. Of course I couldn’t have done it without my good friend and the amazing music producer, Justin Martin, who helped shape our sound and also really define what it means to be part of DIRTYBIRD. 

A lot has happened in the music industry over the last 10 years but I like to think we have stayed consistent and managed to enjoy the ride. The players may change but the theme stays the same; keep it fun and funky. So please enjoy this very special compilation of our music and here’s to another 10 years of DIRTYBIRD!

The Polish DJs, producers and Pets Recordings’ label owners known for their electrifying performances and catchy cuts announce their third LP, ‘Basic Colour Theory’, a fruitful collection of evocative melodies and gorgeous vocals. This album marks a pivotal moment in their career as house outfit Catz ‘N Dogz.

Taking firm lead of the Eastern European electronic music revolution, the pair, who have previously graced the cover of both Mixmag and DJ Mag Spain, have for some time been poised for significant success as their international recognition on the underground has never lacked momentum.  ‘Basic Colour Theory’ will add to the list of remarkable accolades the dynamic duo already have under their belt; joining their acclaimed Essential Mix in 2013, and weighty remixes for a who’s who in music electronic or otherwise, including Basement Jaxx, Kings Of Leon, Thomas Schumacher, Friendly Fires, and Kim Ann Foxman, not to mention their two previous LPs. 

Colour; such a pervasive part of everything we visually encounter, and its many theories a logical structure that for many artists, designers and music producers becomes an intuitive choice - a melting pot of ideas and influences in varying quantities.  Evoking particular moods and emotions through choice of palette in design and sound architecture. 

In this full length offering, traditional songwriting meets Catz ‘N Dogz signature infectious basslines; a natural result of extensive sonic exploration and the osmotic process of years of DJing worldwide, all the while developing a deeper understanding of what they want to say through their music.

Their knack for reading a crowd just right has seen them lording stages of some of the most coveted festivals across the globe, including SW4, Park Life, Bestival, Snowbombing, Electric Daisy Carnival and BPM, and has also resulted in them being booked for the iconic Movement Festival 2015 (Detroit) and Exit Festival 2015 (Serbia). The same talent that has helped them achieve such stratospheric success is translated here in a collection of inviting tracks, as they showcase their on-point producing talents.

We here at Second State are thrilled to bring you our new concept entitled HUB. While most labels these days are doing various artists releases to showcase the overall talent on their label, we thought it would be better suited for both our listeners and ourselves to break the mold and bring you a series of true collaborations.
