This mix is from the heart. I’ve been very inspired by mid 90s club culture and the sonic developments around the time period of 1992-1997. Some of the track exist outside of this period, but ultimately have the same tone and feel; deeply penetrative, emotionally rich, and radically soft and queer.

Q. How would you describe yourself?
A.  I would describe myself as someone who is very outgoing and inspired/recharged by most things creative. I've always been a bit prone to sensory overload which can be overwhelming at times, but over the years I’ve learned to channel that into my creative work. I try to take inspiration from my culture first and foremost, but also the influences and chaos of the city around me. 

Q. How long have you been a part of the NY music scene?
A. I would probably say since 2015. I moved to NYC in 2007 and through the years became friends with some of the most inspirational and talented musicians/artists I know. I started a party called Maricon in Manhattan in 2015. I created the party to fill a void within the Latinx queer community and honestly because I wanted to hear more reggaeton at the functions. I didn’t have much budget to book talent so to save money I started playing the opening set which is how I taught myself to DJ. After many train wrecks I started to really get into the story telling of mixing different sounds together and slowly started getting booked for other peoples events. 

Q.  Tell us a bit about this mix.
A. This might have been one of the most challenging mixes I’ve ever put together. I wanted to focus on experimental reggaeton  music and dynamic sounds influenced by Latin beats. While recording I envisioned myself walking home during a summer sunrise after a night out of flooding my body and ears with eclectic and ethereal sounds. I see the sun slowly rising while the wet pavement reflects the glistening lights around me.

Equally comfortable playing peak time club sets or deeper introspective selections, Emily Jeanne has found her own niche sitting at the borders of many sounds and never steering too far in any one direction. Expect cutting edge sounds ranging from cutting edge techno music to the outer limits of experimental drone/ambient and everything in between.
