This lush and musical 17-track affair is Sean’s first big solo project and it has been in the works for almost three years. Written mostly in his Bristol studio, the LP features a wealth of international collaborations – Jennifer Wallace, Diane Charlemagne, Renn - and has been made primarily on real hardware such as the Fender Rhodes, SH-09, Juno 106, Poly 61, JV-1010, EMU Vintage Keys and the Moog Slim Phatty.

 

Sean who has been producing since his teens and includes fine labels like US garage staple King Street Sounds, Defected, Strictly Rhythm and Local Talk in his discography says of the album: “It was important for me to get it perfected to my original vision, and to keep that vision throughout was difficult. I’ve literally drawn inspiration from everything that’s influenced me as producer and writer over the years. I always wanted to create something that demonstrates all my tastes in soulful dance music which can be influenced by so many sub genres like Hip Hop, Disco, Jazz, Soul, Deep House, US garage etc. The NuYorican Soul album has always been a benchmark for me in terms of a perfectly constructed album and is something I never get tired of listening to.”

 

Those influences shine though in this fantastically musical and deeply considered album: it bares all the hallmarks of a proper full length that has been built from the ground up with fantastic arrangements, catchy vocals and real song structures.

 

The production values are sky high on this album, and though it might have been a long time in the making, it was worth it, because it categorically proves that now really is Sean McCabe’s time.

Those who know house music history remember Doug Lazy as one of the pioneers of Hip-House with certified bangers like "Let It Roll" and "Let The Rhythm Pump" from the early 90s. Some of you may remember we released the pumping "Church Clap" featuring Doug and Deborah Bond last year that immediately put him back on the minds of music lovers around the world!

So, super-fresh off the studio desk is the most hypnotically infectious Doug Lazy record yet and it is absolutely PERFECT for programming at the height of the night. It's the right title and right rap on the right beat at the right time. The bass-line lures you in right from the start, followed by the naggingly catchy horn riff. Then Doug kicks in with his most insidious and freaky rap yet. If we had to describe we'd call it “psychedelic hip-house” because that's the effect it will weave on the dance-floor.

As usual we've supplied a plethora of different mixes from Mr. V, DJ Spen, Thommy Davis, and Melvin Gentry we'd implore you to listen to all of them because there really is something for everyone in this remix package. Like we said, this is just perfect for the height of the night and, as with all great tunes, you'll find 'Sky High' still reverberating through your head till the break of dawn!

First up, the  “Original Vocal” and “Instrumental” Mixes that let Regisford’s bumping bass, jazzed up piano, swelling strings and spiritual keys shine under Wilson’s stellar vocal performance. Secondly, the “Alternative Vocal Mix” switches the percussion of the original opting for more congas, shakers and bongos whilst leaving the claps at bay to give a deeper interpretation of the original. Finally, the “Alternative Dub” drops the vocals of this alternate version completing what is another standout release from Timmy Regisford that captures the soulful essence of 2018.
