He has created a Brooklyn Pirate Radio Sound Map and he’s now in partnership with the sound preservation program of the Library of Congress. However, he describes the experience of writing for the American theater as traumatic because there are so few opportunities for new plays to be produced.&nbsp; But the day he decided to call himself a Storyteller, everything changed!&nbsp; He moved into different genres. Jude interviews Matthew Seiji Burns from Seattle. He’s a games developer, writer and composer. His narrative game Eliza is about an A.I counseling program, the people who use it, and the people who make it. It’s a naturalistic game that Matthew also calls a visual novel and it attracts people who don’t normally play games. Eliza was produced by Zachtronics games studio in 2019. Matthew’s also worked for some big giant games companies. In Eliza his protagonist has suffered burn out in the high tech industry. There’s some autobiographical content in that. Episode 6: Matthew Burns - Games Developer, Writer and Composer

. Composer and guitarist Patrick Grant believes that the roots of all music are in spectacle. He’s worked with avant garde theater directors such as Robert Wilson and the activist Living Theater created by Judith Malina and Julian Beck. He’s fascinated by the chants and percussive sounds of the gamelan orchestras of Bali and the Kecak monkey dances which he’s studied on frequent visits to Indonesia. He’s interested in the physics of sound and what he calls ‘strange’ music. Originally from Detroit, he grew up with motoric industrial rhythms and tuned in to the CBC and BBC because Detroit has an affinity to Canada. Today his apartment looks out on the East River in NYC and he’s a professor at New York University, but he still travels widely to play and study the traditions of other cultures. Commentator for World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) (Russian programming) - that’s been a long standing gig for New York actor Moti Margolin. He’s often cast as Eastern European villains, the most infamous being Dmitri Rascalov in Grand Theft Auto IV. His parents came from Russia, he was born in Israel but grew up in America. Moti is named after his grandfather Mordechai who was a lead actor in a theatre company in Belarus. Acting he says, is his career but videography pays the bills. However, all his work is intricately connected – so much so that his days are scheduled into blocks of activity but they all help him become a better actor. British actor Antonia Beamish has recorded at least 8 pages on the Audible website. She reads fiction and nonfiction titles and enjoys the vitality of horror stories even though she doesn’t read them for pleasure. She talks about how to keep the characters and their accents separate as she makes her way through the hours of recording a book. She believes acting with the full body as a narrator is vital to bring voices to life. She’s lived and worked in America and recalls the uncertainty of making career plans on short term visas. Episode 11: Antonia Beamish - Audio book narrator, globe-trotting actor, with an awesome array of accents

&nbsp; Author, actor, and raconteur Robin Hirsch ran the Cornelia Street Cafe in New York’s Greenwich Village for 41 years until he was forced to close it in 2019 due to rising rent. The restaurant was renowned for its basement nightclub where singer/songwriters, jazz bands, poets and comics played on a tiny stage. Shows were short so that different groups perform each night. Robin who’s a writer and actor, has performed several shows about his life and the prejudice he felt being a German Jew in post war London. In New York he found endless outlets for creative expression. He established a stable of talent at his café where people incubated new work and the famous rubbed shoulders with the aspiring. Career advice? Robin says he’s always stumbled into opportunities and grasped them but nothing was planned. He’s an introvert who has had to learn to be an unflappable MC, host and artistic director. Classically trained composer, guitarist, rapper Gene Pritsker has had over 600 of his compositions performed. Episode 15: Allegra Rosenberg - Creatively using Social Media to help artists and fans and find magical opportunities

Actor and pianist Mike Iveson has been an ensemble member of the innovative Elevator Repair Service (ERS) theater ensemble since 2006. He’s written music for them and then wrote and produced two musicals of his own. He says other performers spent the two years when stages were dark during Covid, honing their skills learning new ones and expanding their range. Instead he found that he was scaling back.&nbsp; As he talks to Jude it becomes clear that he had been wearing too many hats: composer, lyricist, playwright, conductor, pianist, director, producer and actor. Most of her short stories I have read more times than I can count. I also really love The Group by Mary McCarthy. I have seen the Sidney Lumet "Murder on the Orient Express" literally dozens of times. It's kind of the reason you see that icon of Albert Finney as Poirot as my avatar in Gmail. Am a big fan of L'Avventura by Antonioni too. Not Antonioni generally though. Weirdly dry. I love the plays of Jackie Sibblies Drury very much. She can do no wrong in my eyes. There's too much music to take note of. I like one of the recent Kendrick Lamar singles, I like plenty of his songs, also Destroyer and New Pornographers which are very Gen X of me, and I have had one of those Olivia Rodrigo songs in my head for days ("Good For You"). Episode 16: Mike Iveson - Prioritizing Talents After Covid

Sarah Elmaleh is comfortable and happy portraying roles that reflect the various facets of her identity. As a director and voice actor for videogames, Sarah believes in a collaborative process where actors contribute to tone, structure, writing and content.&nbsp; A keen player growing up, she’s still passionate about the growth possibilities and cross fertilization of games but she doesn’t necessarily want to play all the games that she’s had a role in or that she’s directed.&nbsp; Her characters run the gamut of villains, monsters, heroines and creatures. Marta Renzi is a dancer, choregrapher and film maker.&nbsp; She’s based in Nyack, New York. As a young dancer she was picked by choreographer Twyla Tharp to dance in the movie of Hair.&nbsp; Her films have been shown in 38 countries and over 300 festivals. They are often site specific, joyful, about community and have a strong sense of social narrative and relationships rather than plot. They are beautiful, accessible, and evocative. Episode 24: Marta Renzi - The Ineffability of Dance

Yasen Peyankov who trained at Bulgaria’s elite theater school, left Sofia immediately after the Berlin Wall came down and went to Chicago to act, direct and form his own theatre group. In 2002 he became an ensemble member of the Steppenwolf Theatre Company, and has acted, directed and translated plays for them ever since. His translation of Anton Chekhov’s The Seagull performed in the round was his most recent production for the 2021 – 2022 season. He’s also a professor of drama at the University of Illinois in Chicago. Measured, wry, thoughtful and modest, Yasen has retained his cultural identity and also become a very American artist. Omar Román De Jesús is a Queer LatinX choreographer and company director who creates rhythmic narratives through contemporary dance forms, improvisation, and dance theater techniques.&nbsp; He began formal dance training in Guaynabo, Puerto Rico.&nbsp;He won the Championship Cup and Gold Medal at the National Dance Competition in Puerto Rico. He’s since danced with Parsons&nbsp;Dance,&nbsp;Ballet&nbsp;Hispánico and Wylliams/Henry Contemporary Dance Company.&nbsp;He was one of the winning choreographers for the Joffrey Academy of Dance's 8th annual Winning Works Choreographic Competition, and the first person commissioned to create an original work on Jacob Jonas The Company. Peter Cunningham tells stories with his photos. He pairs images and so abstract photos are in relationship with each other and we wonder what’s about to happen. He was an assistant to the great Henry Cartier Bresson in 1975 when Bresson was making a photo documentary about New Jersey. He went onto shoot stars like Madonna and Springsteen and Broadway actors. As his career unfolded he became more interested in watching how light illuminates images so that they become abstracted. Set in 1915, this 90-minute drama is based on the true story of American consul Leslie Davis, who helped 80 Armenians escape and documented the Armenian massacre. It was written by Louis Nowra for BBC Radio 3 and is a poignant, filmic, and warm portrait of Davis and his Armenian staff.

The Light of Darkness

A multi award winning documentary produced in 2003 for WNYC, Soundprint Media and Radio Netherlands about women survivors of sex abuse under the Japanese military. In their eighties, they are looked after in a Buddhist home outside Seoul that also has a small museum about the tragic experiences of so called 'comfort women' who were kidnapped to service sexual needs during World War Two.
