As part of RA2122, our ongoing celebration of 21 years of club culture, we'll be featuring some of our favourite DJs from around the world, highlighting the parties or clubs most important to their lives in dance music. First up we have Tama Sumo and Lakuti, both residents at Berlin's Panorama Bar, the house-focused room upstairs at Berghain. Panorama Bar has played host to thousands—if not millions—of people's most formative dance floor experiences, with an unparalleled vibe, near-perfect sound and window blinds that have taken their own place in dance music mythology. 

The duo's mix highlights the style that Tama Sumo and Lakuti have brought to the club and represents its anything-goes energy, mixing tracks from iconoclasts like Hieroglyphic Being (including one of his best-ever tracks) in with old-school favorites from Reel By Real, Larry Heard and even Ministry, moving from house to industrial to disco without batting an eyelid. Tama Sumo and Lakuti's loose but impeccable flow ties together house music history with a deep love and knowledge of all genres and, perhaps most importantly, the desire and know-how to just make people dance. We couldn't be more thrilled to feature Tama Sumo and Lakuti for the first mix in our birthday series, and we hope that you enjoy it as much as we do.

A sunset set at Waking Life, Portugal, in June 2023. I DJed after Vlada and before Anthony Naples, in front of a beautiful lake with the sun setting behind me and an incredibly wholesome, engaged, positive, locked-in crowd in front of me. Kept this one pretty measured in pace, and went for expansive, moody, euphoric, maybe also a little psychedelic in vibe, sorta imagining gazing into the deep starry abyss.

We welcome Matt Lush aka @lushy303 to the very first installment of the Delphic Iris Mix Series recorded live from our launch last year at @kimchirecordz in Berlin, a killer deep and groove heavy all vinyl set recorded on their lovely Bozak mixer for extra crispy sound.

This series is a handpicked selection of artists and friends of the label whom we enjoy their vibe, energy, and thoughtful musical curation.

We aim to highlight both our own releasing artists as well as selectors in our general community, whether they are based in Berlin, Sydney, or beyond.

As eclectic and chaotic as the Delphic Iris's visions themselves, our mix series will be somewhat sporadic in schedule and touch on both functional club music and its weirder hybrid edges. 

The series aims to channel otherworldly energy, intricate rhythms, and textures that we hope will take you on wild and unique journeys

Born in Melbourne and currently based in Berlin, Matt has been playing records and hosting events for over 20 years.

Originally a more straight up techno deejay, inspired by the likes of Mills and Garnier; these days Matt likes to traverse the dark line between techno, house, electro and acid music.

His artistry behind the decks is a perfect blend of infectious energy, deep musical knowledge and seamless mixing, expertly reading the room who is equally at home in an intimate club space to an expansive warehouse party.

AST112: OSMOSIS: ALTERED STATES OF DOWN UNDER
 (OIL / LOOSEE CRUNCHE / WRX / IVORY WHIPS)

  This was originally intended as a six-artist compilation I was asked to put together for an overseas label years back that never saw light. Here it is culled down to three of the six originally included, with the addition of a recent, locked-down side from Ivory Whips. Oil opens things up in his inimitably slick style after keeping things pretty damn quiet for awhile now. A slowburn open and quick escalation into full shuffle mode shortly thereafter, “life’s too short to fuck y’self over, y’know?”. Then comes the return of Crunché to AST with two severe cuts, one almost approaching a rhythm you can follow and the other rejecting the concept wholesale. Next up WRX dives even deeper into his deep bag of techniques for these three burners. Lastly, recently minted improv-electronics outliers Ivory Whips offer two beat-driven numbers ahead of another cassette release more in this vein than the comparatively narcotic, Meeting, released on AST a few months ago.
