Starting a thread from Montreal to Bristol, this mini LP is rooted in the tradition of dub and techno, but with tinges of roots and acid as well as the etheric ambience they are both known for.

Root, Stalk, Leaf and Bloom is contemplative but heartfelt, with a sense of momentum and positive purpose.

Boiling club music down to a brutal, incisive essence, Anthoney Hart AKA Basic Rhythm returns to Sneaker Social Club with a trio of sharply honed Drum & Bass cuts for the dance.

With releases on labels as varied as Type, Warp sub-label Arcola, Planet Mu and Future Retro, Basic Rhythm has always presented a clear-sighted vision of what works in the context of hardcore-rooted sounds without ever sounding derivative of what has come before.

Following 2019’s New Style and 2020’s I Don’t Know What I Would Do, Basic Rhythm returns to Sneaker Social with the icy impact of ‘Still’. The lead track runs across the A side in a nuanced sound field of atmospheric impressions, architectural punctuation and an understated but deadly effective beat. With a minimalist approach these subtle touches carry all the more weight.

On the flip, ‘Le Samouraï’ has a similarly spartan palette, albeit with a much knottier rhythmic framework and a more pronounced bed of dread-filled string pads ensuring the vibe remains as moody as possible in a time-honoured UK style. The extraneous silence around the 2/3 marker is the definition of an anti-drop.

Referencing a totemic study of magic and religion, ‘Still (Golden Bough)’ approaches the A side from a subtly altered angle, switching up the textural matter and thus shifting the atmosphere towards something more ritualistic and unnerving. As with the rest of the EP, In something so stark your ears relish every individual element, and yet each subsequent listen brings another dimension of the track to the fore. In the rigour of his sound, Hart once again demonstrates how his rhythms are anything but basic.

Sam was born and raised in Milwaukee, Wisconsin in the US and has been drawn to UK-inspired sounds since the late ‘90s. He began his DJ career by playing vinyl in small venues and parties in downtown Milwaukee while dabbling in music production. After moving to Chicago in 2000 to study music at DePaul University, DJing became a regular part of weekend life, including supporting international headliners. Living blocks away from Gramaphone Records, crate-digging was a passion. In 2004, he took another step in his music career and moved to Miami, Florida to earn a Masters Degree in Electronic Music Composition from the University of Miami Frost School of Music. Putting DJing aside for several years, he dove into generative music synthesis and performance utilizing Max/MSP, CSound, and Reaktor. After moving back to Wisconsin, Sam continued to hone his skills creating digital music. He has since gone back to his roots and first love, DJing in his home state and creating music combining new and classic techniques that often hark back to the golden age of UK breaks and jungle. Sam exploded onto the breaks circuit with two signed releases in 2022 including a debut work with @yukumusic and shows no sign of slowing down any time soon.

The latest outing from Swiss label re:st sees the return of incredibly talented Brussels-based producer Owl. After releasing the critically acclaimed album 'Infinite Horizon' just a few weeks ago on Silent Season, Owl is back with another astounding release, a four-tracker EP - 'Unknown Area.' 
In 'Unknown Area,' Owl explores darker sides of ambient, halftime drum & bass, and leftfield. Our premiere for today, 'Shifting Zone' is a hypnotic, eerie halftime drum & bass driven by the powerful kick drum, haunting metallic pads, and trippy melody that creates quite an ominous atmosphere that craves dark dance floors.

Banoffee Pies Records 16th Original Series release comes via a 4 track
Split EP collaboration between Kincaid, and Zenzizenz, the ambient moniker of techno producer Viers. After a long year behind us, and likely ahead, this record takes a temporary step into the calm and adds reflection to the blurred months that passed.

The release is a collection of textural bumps and melodies opening with Kincaid’s 9 minute “Slow Stumble Home” - an aptly titled down tempo trip through a confused space, layered with composition, like a Playstation home screen theme on Mushrooms. Calm follows with two tracks from Zenzizenz - “Returning From Home”, a steady meditation through rumbling sounds soon shift to a new mood on the B side. “Falling Off” offers a more lethargic wandering through the marshland before BP016 comes to it’s close with “Single Cell”, the 2nd Kincaid track, which concludes with a chaptered 4x4 structure and slow bursts of energy. Time to absorb. Love BP x
