The 42nd release of katharsis is the collaborative album “Soft Space” by label founder jjjacob and various other artists from around the world, coming out on May 31st. The album works as a sequel to his previous full-length release "Brutal Nature" from 2022, both in terms of the collaborational dogma in production but also in the thematic connection and contrast between the brutality of nature and the softness of space. All tracks emerged as infantile jjjacob sketches, then taking more form and gaining inspirational matter from the collaborating artists' conduct and care, before finally being concluded by the final touches of jjjacob again.

The result is as the title suggests smooth and gentle at most times, but it does though have more wicked and harsh moments and aspects throughout the album. The emotional journey of the album keeps pendulating between the pleasant floating sensations of celestial emptiness and the brute mysticality of the unknown. At times it feels aerodynamic or dissolving, at others it tastes crispy and anthemic, but the overall output is definitely ethereal and cosmic.

"Ca se passe dans une voiture de location, mais c'est pas tout à fait celle qui était présentée sur le site web du service de location. Apparement il y a eu une erreur, la personne au comptoir à dit qu'elle etait désolée. C'est une voiture hybride qui a du être 'futur' à un moment mais qui prend la poussière aujourd'hui. Elle est très équipée, le skaï des fauteuils est un peu craquelé et ça sent fort les vacances d'inconnus. Mais la particularité de cette voiture c'est le pare brise qui traverse toute la longueur de l'habitacle comme une seule vitre bombée qui déforme l'extérieur, avec une longue fissure en diagonale. on dirait l'aquarium de la rochelle.

il est 21h et il fait vraiment très lourd. Il y a de la clim dans la voiture mais elle marche par intermittence. Il s'agit alors de traverser tous les quartiers depuis l'habitacle, en essayant toutes les options. parfois il faut rouler au pas dans des zone presque piétonnes et parfois il faut glisser comme un savon sur les échangeurs. le check in de l'hotel est à 11h alors il faut juste tuer le temps en essayant toutes les rues/routes."

"Je suis derrière le rideau et ca tchatche pas mal. 5 minutes plus tot un groupe de pro nat s'etait infiltré dans la salle de conference mais la sécurité got my back. Un montée d'angoisse comme c'est pas permit me tient au cou très serré. Timidement je m'avance vers le pupitre et lance le powerpoint. Un rythme d'une provenance inconnue retentit et est diffusé sur toute la quadriphonie de la salle. Merde quoi, je ne rêve pas, je crois que mon ordinateur est en train de se faire hacker.
Vite, trouver solution, quelques 300 personnes ont payé pour entendre mon opinion sur la nouvelle technique d'ivg.
Dans un calme simulé je reprends mes notes et écarquille les yeux : WTfffF ce que je tiens entre les mains est une tracklist.
Je tente de formuler 2-3 excuses mais les lumières se tamisent et l'ingénieur lumière m'indique par un signe de pouce que tout est ok, c'est mon tour. Personne ne semble relever l'absurdité de la situation. Je fixe mes mains, puis celles des gens, et certains sont debout et déjà en train de claquer des doigts en rythme.
L'hésitation commence à se faire sentir, dernier coup d'oeil à la salle, sans nul doute ils n'attendent qu'une chose : un DROP. Qu'a cela ne tienne.


Un calme sourd m'enveloppe comme une spirale délirante, je suis propulsée dans les années 2010 et son lot de surprises. Décapotable sous le soleil cheveux au vent, rêves d'émancipation et tendance au risque. Je n'entends pas bien ce que je fabrique et le son se distord dans un build-up constant, mais chaque fois que le merdier semble inaudible, la vision de mes doigts qui filent me rappelle à l'ordre.

Une alarme vient me tirer de cette hallucination estivale, à nouveau, d'une provenance inconnue. Je regarde le public et j'ai un goût étrange dans la bouche. Ma vision se trouble et le bruit de fond se fait entendre de plus en plus clairement. Tout s'assombrit et j'ouvre les yeux; il est 7h45 et la conférence est dans quelques heures."

Romance Relic (Jussi Hertz) is a Helsinki-based multi-disciplinary artist, sound designer and composer. Hertz’s work takes influences from experimental electronic music, modern classical music and ambient genre tropes. Their pieces of music have been previously released via labels such as Janushoved, DISPLAY and Eastern Nurseries. Within their musical practice, Hertz works with various mediums, ranging from field recordings and re-appropriated and sampled sound excerpts to synthesized melodic passages and vocal verses. Within and throughout their work, Hertz explores the intersections of emotional temporality and musical tropes’ relation to sensibility and pop-inclined romanticism. In their practice Hertz tries to stretch the boundaries of fragmentary storytelling, and its narrative capabilities and dispositions.
