I used about 95 records / samples for this mix (didn't list them all) and focussed on finding the right connections and storytelling between beats, lyrics, movie scenes, personal experiences...

Hyper Mix (Studio Brussel)

Here is a new guestmix for Brooklyn Radio to celebrate 50 years of Hip Hop. It's a mix of old and new hip hop and who they sampled from - featuring 55 records and clocking in at around 47 minutes.

The mix is built on connections of samples and hip hop tracks, for example the mix starts with a jazz track from Larry Willis which was made in 1973 (the birth year of hip hop). That track has a break with a piano that has been used by the Gravediggaz and Tyler the Creator, which follow after the Larry Willis track. These two hip hop tracks also contain a drum break from the Lafayette Afro Rock Band, which will be heard right after.

50 Years of Hip Hop (Brooklyn Radio)

This mixtape is my tribute to David Lynch, blending music from his iconic soundtracks with tracks from my vinyl collection that capture the Lynchian vibe. Over the past two months, I’ve crafted a cinematic journey using a mix of dark jazz, braindance, speed metal, soul, 60's love ballads, drones, funk, and more—genres that all reflect the eerie and surreal world Lynch is known for. Inspired by his films and Twin Peaks, the mix takes you through haunting soundscapes and experimental moments, with a personal touch drawn from my daily walks through the forests of Brussels. It’s an unsettling, dreamlike ride that builds to a closing just like the way Lynch wrapped up Wild at Heart. If you’re ready for a sonic journey through the strange and mysterious, this one’s for you.

this new mix has alot different flavours blended together (hip hop, rock, soul, funk, italian stuff... even classical music). The last 16 years  I have been doin alot of research on italian & italian/american organised crime. The five families in New york, the Bruno family in Philadelphia, the Patriarca Family in new england, Decalvacante new jersey crew & the outfit in chicago are the ones who caught my attention. I thought it was interesting to add a little mob flavour in this one - Instead of contacting a famous MC to record a couple of shout outs for my mix I contacted 2 former wiseguys (Lou Ferrante & Frank Calabrese Jr)- Lou Ferrante was with the Gambino's in New york ( he didn't have an audiodevice so no shout out from him). Frank Calabrese JR  was a member of the notorious South side crew (1 of the Outfit crews) in Chicago. He quit the life and wrote a book about his story - Operation Family Secrets ... I highly recommend it
