London rap duo Summers Sons return with a new sound and vision. ‘The Buzz’ is a far cry from the beloved jazz rap that Turt (rap) and Slim (production) have perfected with their previous projects.

“It's the love, it's the lust, it's the drugs, it's the buzz, it's the crushing the buds, it's the ride, it's the rush, it's the fights, it's the blood, it's the signs from above, fuck the government, live life in the mud.“ Turt opens up over a hypnotic Slim groove build from white noise, static and bass.

A buzz can be many things. The sound of a bee, the rush of excitement, the background noise that accompanies nearly every moment of our lives... “The buzz of electricity, the buzz of adrenaline, the buzz of drugs, the buzz of falling in love, the buzzing of our internal monologue” Turt continues, “I'm trying to show how they are all connected. We exist in a world that teaches us to be individuals, to be separate. But we feel alone. We've forgotten our own electric nature, our deepest connection.“

‘The Buzz’ is the first Summers Sons release in 2024. Watch out for a lot more music by Turt and Slim this year. 

Since 2018 Summers Sons have released four albums (‘Undertones’, ‘Uhuru’, ‘The Rain’, ‘Nostalgia’) and a string of high profile collabos with artists like C.Tappin, Twit One, The Silhouettes Project and Koralle. Not forgetting Slim's beat tape for KO-OP.

In 2023, Turt released the album ‘The Questions’ as one third of the project Syrup (the other two are Twit One & C.Tappin) while Slim released an album project (‘Cerulean’) with Benaddict and Ella Mae Suref. Turt also dropped two singles with the Silhouettes Project alongside Nix Northwest and Frankie Stew & Harvey Gunn.

"Uhuru" is the debut album by Summers Sons & C.Tappin from London and Bristol. The journey of this album started back in 2015 and was inspired by the people and places of Tanzania. After three years of channelling the vibe into beats and bars, it is finally here! 

Summers Sons are Turt (rap) & Slim (beats) who are actually brothers. They are longtime friends with vocalist and pianist C.Tappin. Their music can be described as rap with a lot of jazz. We like to call it cool bap.

C.Tappin is a pianist/singer from South-London and member of the Lightworks crew, which consists of him and jazz-rap duo Summers Sons. In 2018 they released their debut album "Uhuru" on Melting Pot Music. "Ashes To Ashes" is Tappin's first solo EP. It's a reflection of a musical and personal journey. On four original jams Tappin fuses cosmic jazz, broken beat, house and rap. Inspired by his life in London as well as by his travels to Tansania where he is working as a teacher for various school projects.

"Ashes To Ashes" comes with three radical reworks by some of Tappin's favourite producers: Slim (Summers Sons), Reginald Omas Mamode IV and Hodini. The cover artwork has been done by UK painter / illustrator Tilly Mint (known for her artworks for Yazmin Lacey and Wulu).

A Tribe Called Quest has been one of my longtime favourite hiphop crews, and this track always stood out for me because of the hazy atmosphere- they got the jazz indeed.

I tracked down the sampled original (it's Sonny Lester's version of  'Green Dolphin Street'), recreated the sampled bits & turned it into a slow burner in the style we know and love from Theo Parrish.
Sprinkled bits on top: some scratches, chorus & vocal snippets from the Tribe.
