Welcome to The Scraps. Another harebrained thread that I’ve decided to pull on. 
I’m currently incubating an album. The songs are written but not yet fully realised in terms of production and how I want to package it all as a body of work. This stage of music making is exciting and turbulent. It’s hard not to grasp too tightly to the songs as they outgrow me and leave the form that I created them in. Patience is not a virtue I am blessed with, but I think it’s important to give this phase the space and time it deserves. So, while I figure all that out, this is a space where I’m going to share the beginnings of the songs. The scraps of the album, before they reach their final form. All recorded at home by me with the goal of imperfection. Just trying to capture the songs as they are when I sit down to record them.  

This is a selfish method of placating my need for everything to be done yesterday. I’m also trying to get perfectionism out of my life, it’s annoying. The songs will not be posted regularly. The quality will be inconsistent, and production will be rough around the edges. But the meaning of the music will be real, and this could be the most honest way to share some of these songs. It’s hard to speak about creativity without sounding like a pretentious dickhead. It’s all just noise at the end of the day. 

The first entry of this musical journal, I’m just titling Song #1. It’s too new to have a name. I like the chaos of the guitars being out of time at the start, and I’m strangely attached to the few sharp notes in the opening verse. And please, for the love of god, listen to it with headphones. The Scraps: SONG #1

The second instalment of The Scraps. The song gods have been good to me the last few months and here is the latest offering, written and recorded in one day. I’m quite proud of this one, it fell straight out. Again, as always, I’m getting my head around production and it’s a long road of figuring it out and for the purpose of this, I reckon it’s good enough for now. I'm currently moving house and the experience of packing up all my sh*t always stirs a few songs loose. I like the lyric flow in this one and the acoustic guitar is actually 3 seperate parts,  lead vocal and guitar are a live take.
