Intense drama instigated by the percussion section - this is great writing...excellent piece!!

Synaesthesia. This refers to music that excites the Imaginination visually or in other sensory modes 
Whilst in music the primary response to the sound is aural, non-auditory sensations can occur owing to a sort of metaphorical excitement of sensations other than the purely aural, for example visual qualities or qualities associiated more with the sensation of touch (e.g soft, velvety, vibrant, harsh 'blending' of sound) so combining to give complex multi sensations ranging across all the senses. The music in this playlist excites such responses in the composers experience and so he hopes and believes it will do so in others'

Synaesthesia Suite for Virtual Orchestra

In this piece outbursts in the brass instruments occur with inreasing frequency disturbing the more settled song like textures at the beginning of the piece and set in motion a dramatic unfolding process in which calm and moderate feeling is more and more displaced by an angry and unsettled mood.
 As the piece progresses this unfolding takes on the shape of a  rondo-like development.
Chords formed from superimposed  triads in related keys play a large part in the harmony in this track.

At a Gentle Walking pace but with Gathering Momentum (Revised 12 July 2023)

This is a variation of a sort on a musical fragment which appears in the theme music for the TV series 'All Creatures great and Small' and also in the first movement of my Tripartite Fantasy and is constructed as a free flowing set of improvisations on a simple basic idea This simple idea is treated in a linear polyphonic way resulting in a texture which moves between consonant and dissonant harmony ending on a C major chord.
This is an updated revision of the original track using different samples.

This piece was conceived while listening to a broadcast of contemporary classical music. It evolves from some simple material by developing themes and motifs (with repetition)and moves from a sombre opening through various darker and lighter moods towards an ending which indulges in a light banter between the orchesrtra and the listener.

'Bittersweet' is so called because it explores traditional harmonic structures together with more piquant harmonies combining the former with the latter to form a complex but incisive framework for the essential 'bitter-sweetness' of  and ambiguity of human existence as many experience it living in modern times.
