College classmates Sadye Bobbette, Ryan DiLello, Julian Snyder, and Jono Quinn met at a liberal arts school in Upstate New York though it wasn’t until a 2019 trip to a drafty cabin in the Berkshires that the four piece found inspiration for their namesake and started a band. Blending the experimental folk tendencies of Yo La Tengo with jangly noise pop textures of contemporaries Real Estate or Courtney Barnett, Otis Shanty have quickly become indie rock mainstays in their new adopted town of Boston. Following the heels of last year’s Early Birds EP, the group are now readying the release of their upcoming album Up On The Hill this Fall on Relief Map Records. For their sophomore album the quartet went to nearby Big Nice Studios (Horse Jumper of Love, Squirrel Flower, IAN SWEET) and though there is a connection to the collection on the EP, there is also an expansion both sonically and lyrically.

Now in their mid-twenties, the slacker rock influences still shine through as does a level of poignancy in partaking with peers. On the single “Nobody’s Party” singer Sadye Bobbette quips “speaking over is not speaking up/anything will fly with the roof detached”. Additionally, on “Pipeline”, the multi-instrumentalist who splits duties between guitar, trumpet, or synthesizer, exercises restraint by asking, “Do I stand a chance to give you all the thoughts that I wish to/You can’t take something back when it is said”. The same restraint is highlighted in the instrumentation and level of musicianship on the 9 track collection. Brief swirling moments from DiLello’s pedal board make their cameos and lift songs like “Seasonal Apprehension” without carrying them away. It’s on cuts like these that the rhythm section of Julian and Jono also showcase their dynamic knack for locking in a groove and pushing tracks near psych-rock territories. Sometimes it’s obvious that a band forms around a single songwriter and at others coalesce uniquely together and it’s clear that Otis Shanty are the rare latter.

Otis Shanty - Why Do I Care?

Out of Stockholm, Sweden, Naive Men Leading the Blind is Martin Korpi and Niclas Jonsson. “Two Stars…” is the second single from our upcoming debut EP. Basic tracks were recorded in Korpi’s basement studio in the summer of ‘24 and were subsequently mixed and mastered in October (by Philp Saxin & John McBain at JPM Mastering, respectively). 

In terms of influences, we are very much omnivores. We’ve always listened to a lot of 60s soul music, which might be heard in the drumming, to 80s and 90s US punk- and alternative rock, like Hüsker Dü, Pavement, and Archers of Loaf (which might be heard in the sound and song writing), to old-school British bands like the Clash, Beatles, Stones and Specials, but also sad singer-songwriter US country (Cash, Jennings, MJ Lenderman, Waxahatchee, and such). 

Hopefully, our tracks sound a bit like a mix of all these!

On “Novel Idea,” Christchurch duo The Response explore the uneasy tension between wanting to start anew and confronting the scars of the past. Opening with the stark declaration, “Burn everything,” the track delves into the internal push and pull of reinvention, where the desire to move on is complicated by the weight of lived experience.
The staccato guitar arpeggios mirror this emotional disconnection, threading through an unnerving chord progression that feels both disjointed and mesmerizing. The protagonist wrestles with self-doubt in the verses, but the chorus flips the narrative with poignant self-reflection: “Every mistake is a badge that I wear, maybe I don’t need to be repaired.”
A hypnotic guitar melody emerges in the bridge, weaving through the song like a quiet revelation, offering a moment of clarity before returning to the track’s restless energy. “Novel Idea” refuses easy answers in favor of a more honest reckoning with imperfection.

"All My Love's For You" was written for my brother and his wife and first played at their wedding this summer (2025). It's about that soulmate feeling, the moment you just know you've found the person you want to grow old with. A little cheesy? Maybe. But the lyrics felt right, and with acoustic guitar and warm harmonies, I wanted this track to feel intimate, honest and full of joy. I'm so glad it's finally out in the world!

Julian Lines is a Guitarist / Songwriter from St Albans, UK.
He has been writing, producing and recording music for over 30 years and has formed and played guitar in several bands. 
Julian has been influenced by many bands over the years, he was heavily influenced by punk bands such as The Clash, The Buzzcocks, The Damned, SLF etc then a bit later post punk bands like The Icicle Works, The Psychedelic Furs, Blondie, Joy Divison and the great guitar sound of Johnny Marr and the Smiths. Not forgetting The Edge and U2.
His next major influence was the plethora of great 90’s bands such as Radiohead, The Stone Roses, The Charlatans, Oasis, Blur, Supergrass and New Order etc.  After that bands such as Editors, White Lies and The National also played their part in Julian’s song writing.  More recently bands such as Daughter, alt-J and Slowdive. 
So Julian’s sound has been crafted over many years but the sound is unmistakably Post punk, the tracks built around soaring guitar riffs.
