This song is featured on the major Irish TV commercial for VHI. It is taken from Julie Feeney's self produced critically-acclaimed album 'pages' yet unreleased in the U.S. Julie composed all of the songs with orchestral parts. She conducted the orchestra over 2 sessions in one day and later recorded her singing in her own studio, where the album was also mixed. Unlike on ‘13 songs’ where Julie played lots of instruments, on ‘pages’, all of the music was played by the orchestra which included trumpets, french horns, trombone, vibraphone, clarinet, flute, oboe, bassoon, violins, violas, cellos, double bass, glockenspiel, sticks and more.
The award-winning video for the song features 18 different hats by Piers Atkinson and it was directed by VIttoria Colonna and won an IMTV award in 2009.

'Myth' from 'pages' by Julie Feeney

'Dear John' is inspired by my grandparents Nora (Onnie) and John who in the 1920s would wait for a moonlit night to cycle to the nearest house for a long visit. There was a joyful excitement; a wonderment in the air and gleeful expectation.  I wanted to revel in that magical confection of sheer happiness.

It's also a celebration of beauty, of waiting, of simplicity and of the magic of basic human experiences, like walking at night in Galway countryside or riding a bike.  Today there's a high value on instant access of experiences, communication and information and an expectation of instant access to everything when we want it and where we want it.  With 'Dear John,' I took a step back from that to revel in this particular beauty that is so familiar to me from growing up in the countryside in Galway.  My own magical memories peer through sensations of the memories of my forefathers.

After composing the poem I composed and conducted the score for strings, harp, harpsichord, bass guitar. I recorded all of my vocals and stomps at Kylemore Abbey Gothic Church Co. Galway.
