2016 is a new turning point year in Alejandro’s career. With a unique sounding album coming out at the end of the year in the respected english label Third Ear Recordings and a new palette of sounds and inspirations, Alejandro is slowly shifting to a more deep and complex sound. Still accesible to the club, but wider and richer in sound design.

These two new titles in the label’s catalogue carefully thread different periods in mosso’s evolution, showing the continuity of that personal sound defined by precise crafted percussions and playful melodies, appealing to the mind, body and soul.

Kander on the A side immediately sets the club pace with a rolling rhythm that serves as foundation for that classic mosso combination of riffs and counterpoints that build tension thru the song bringing it to an emotional peak before quickly stripping down back to the basics. The beat gently goes on, asking for the next ride of excitement.

Tikjda on the B side shows a similar beat, but we soon discover a completely different mood and tone. The percussions go darker, the meandering melodies become unstable and the timbres get nostalgic. A complex balance of north african drums, orchestra winds and drifting synths, build a song that proves as challenging to access as rewarding for those who give in and immerse themselves.

Akbal Music has now been turning out essential dance music for a whole ten years and to celebrate this milestone the label puts out a vinyl only release from a fine selection of contemporary artists.

Vinyl only treat starts from long time German talent Sascha Dive,the Deep Vibes boss’s ‘Lab#4’ is a quick and prickly number that sucks you into a shady groove underpinned with real bass menace. 

Next up is Superlounge with Uluwatu Dub. The track starts swiftly with clever percussions and a lush pad quickly to progress with several drums rhythms into the bass that will keep the listeners tuned into its groove.

Romanian Mano Andrei appears with a sleek and stripped back tune that is full of electronic soul and infectiously bumpy drums and hypnotic vibes.

Finally minimal master Eastenderz and CatchRecordings associate Doubtingthomas is next with his vinyl onlyoffering, going for a much more intricate, synthetic, richly designed deep house tune that is soft, succulent and truly sublime.

This is a fulsome package that packs plenty of punch and showcases exactly the sort of quality dance music that Akbal Music has been, and will always be, about.

German producer collective Township Rebellion sign a string-heavy three tracker of deeply blissful tech house collectively titled Aviation.

Dolores kicks in with an immense groove, setting up a grandiose backdrop from the get go. Scintillating synths and spacious arrangements send the track into euphoric heights, while the punchy bassline triggers instant movement.

Lumen bears a melancholic loveliness, revealing a rumbling bass and soft, airy pads. What intensifies the mood, however, is a haunting chord progression paired with a fittingly ghostly vocal, giving the track a new dimension.

Next Life consists of a back and forth dynamic piece, making use of the 1993 classic spoken word vocal-poem “Get Up”. Its upbeat and looming style adds a sense of impending doom, amping the track’s dance appeal.

adaptations that flow explicitly and reinvent the album tracks.
Incorporating a delectable “huh” and graceful piano, Claude VonStroke has excelled with his interpretation of
An Evidence of Time. Animating the original with an emphatic bassline and unyielding timbres, whilst paying
homage to the original with the mid-way breakdown. Audiofly have reconstructed Radian with their discernible
sound. Their remix strips down the original, migrating through hypnotic synthesis, steadily building then fading
to silence. Keeping the original kick a prominent feature, Tim Green ’s rendition of the title track Baobab shines
through. A hearty techno beat forms the basis of the minimalistic roller.
Dirtybird founder Claude VonStroke has had an incredible year with his longstanding label receiving Mixmag’s
Label of the Decade award back in July. Aside from touring the globe, Audiofly recently claimed they were
“ exactly where we want to be as djs and performers ” when the duo made their debut appearance at Burning
Man this year.
