This was a 'Disco-fied' virtual set from the Continental Bar on Saturday, May 16, 2020. Certainly a different feeling playing in an empty venue, but it was still a thrill to play knowing people were tuned in via social media sources...Special shout outs to Sam, Andrea, Mr. V,  Raul and our biggest music fan - Debra :)

Canadian born @JasonHodgesTO first arrived in the house music scene in late 1991, taking on Toronto's underground party scene he developed his DJing skills on the decks with the likes of New York - New Jersey sounds. Hard-hitting beats with deep grooves became the signature
sound for Hodges - whether in the studio, on the dance floors; from local Toronto gigs, to the surrounding towns around Ontario and
across Canada, Hodges was growing and coming into his own.

Jason began releasing records with various Toronto labels such as JINXX RECORDS and 83 WEST getting his feet wet remixing and co-producing tracks with some of Canada's talents. After many years of training and development, Hodges returned to the scene with a new energy and a new plan. He continued to build his profile by remixing artists like , DJ Sneak,Kaskade on OM,Jully Black,Justin Timberlake,DJ Colette,DJ Heather,Derrick Carter, Music For Freaks,Classic Music Company,Diz and the list goes on.. promising a steady and bright future with the creation of Junction Style Music Toronto,Jason’s production company.

The name Jason Hodges represents the technical craft he pours into every production, with highly anticipated tracks being played and praised by the likes of DJ Sneak,Mark Farina,Oliver Dollar, DJ Heather, Derrick Carter among other eminent House Music Pioneers around the world.

For Volume 138 of the series, we head to Austin Texas as we bring you yet another incredible artist from that city, Cuillere.

Cuillere is a House music producer and DJ known for his deep, funky, underground house sound. Fueled by a passion for disco, funk, and hip hop, Cuillere has been steadily gaining momentum in the music world for years.

Cuillere held down club residencies across the United States. Cuillere joined forces with Jolby to create the crew “Jack Junkies” in 1999. But like any DJ, Cuillere dreamt of producing house music, and before long he hooked up with Busy and Crux. Together they released their first single on DJ Sneak’s label ‘Oomph’.

As you can see, he's been around the house music block a few times, and you can tell in his flawless technical abilities.

We feature another Canadian artist for Volume 148 of the series to kick off the new year, as we welcome Toronto's Sicario to SRS!!

Sicario has been rocking crowds from coast to coast for the last 20+ yrs. Sicario started out in the Drum & Bass seen back in the early 90's and continued to smash it everywhere he went. Until his 1st year of University, when he went and saw Hippe & Halo and then he was bitten again by the house bug. Over the years Sicario has played along side Jason Hodges, Hatiras, Flipside, Demuir to name a few and has always been consider a JACK MASTER. Sicario now is a part of Dirtylicious here in Toronto, and his Soulful Jackin style of House will sure to please and in the the Words of Sicario "KEEP BOUNCIN"

Soul Room Sessions Volume 148 | SICARIO | Canada

Julius Papp is one whose dedication to music has propelled his career as a producer and DJ in the dance/club music scene. His dance music roots lie in Disco of the 70’s and New Wave of the 80’s. Presently living in San Francisco, he was born and raised in Montreal, Canada, and got tuned into dance music through the city’s flourishing club scene and diverse radio broadcasts. He started collecting vinyl records in the mid 70’s and took to the turntables in 1985, scoring his first major club gig two years later.
 
Hearing the non-stop flow of music and observing the booth where each DJ seamlessly blended each selection were early influences for Julius. Later influences included reading about DJ residencies that were piloted by talented club music programmers that even today, influence the youngest of aspiring DJs.  Legends, like David Mancuso at The Loft & Larry Levan at the Paradise Garage in New York City to Frankie Knuckles at The Warehouse in Chicago and Tony Humphries’ weekly at Zanzibar in New Jersey.  Always sparked by any music listed in those articles, Julius would shop for those titles that have become classics, worshipped by their discerning audiences. To this day, his goal is to keep expanding his foundation in music by being open-minded and eclectic in absorbing the music that truly touches him.
 
That open-minded attitude is what Julius uses to fine-tune his musical palette, which gives him a dominant sound that exudes a deep and soulful perspective.  That dominant sound is (Soulful) House Music – which to him, is about an uplifting positive message. People coming together in unity, with no barriers or restrictions, but rather, with tolerance and the spirit of music, unifying everyone on the dance-floor.  That being said, he blends various musical styles together - including Soul, Latin, Afro, Disco, Jazz and Electronic sounds with such fluidity, that it is difficult at times to put a defining stamp on his sound. Contributing to that is his willingness to take a chance. He always tries to push the envelope by introducing music that deserves exposure, taking his audience on a musical journey with various mood and energy changes.
Not content to limiting his ambitions in the DJ booth, Julius began producing music in 1994. The studio was another outlet for Julius’ creative ideas to flow. His first release was a down-tempo project on the Acid Jazz tip.  He also drew attention as part of the jazz and funk scene in San Francisco via the Mushroom Jazz parties alongside creator and resident Mark Farina.
 
As Julius’s production catalogue grew, so did the amount of labels he released music on including – long tenured labels like “Nervous Records” (NYC), “King Street Sounds” (NYC), “Large Music” (Chicago) and “OM” (SF), to signings on “Soulfuric Recordings” (FL) and Kenny Dope’s “Dope Wax” (NYC) label, as well as Bob Sinclar’s  “Yellow Productions” in Paris. In 2018, Julius released his Phunk Odyssey EP on Miguel Migs’ “Salted Music” label. Co-hosting the long running Salted SF events with Migs, it was an honor to make his artist debut on the label.
 
He also ventured into the label arena with his own “NeoDisco Music” imprint.  Named after the sound that continues to inspire him – the small, independent label offers him an alternate outlet to release his own productions.

During the past 2 years through the pandemic, Julius has remained active with live DJ sets via virtual broadcasts while also returning to regular events in front of a welcoming dance-floor… Let The Music Play…
