King Stitt was a Jamaican deejay pioneer who began with Clement Dodd's Sir Coxsone's Downbeat Sound System in 1956. He was crowned "king of the deejays" in 1963 during the heyday of ska, and at the birth of reggae he entered the studio and created some of the first deejay records including "Fire Corner" and "Herbman Shuffle". This live performance was recorded in 2002 at the Legend of Ska concerts in Toronto, and features Stitt chatting over foundation ska selections with Ska Nick The Trojan at the controls.

A great mix between male and female vocals, and it’s got an overall nod to Blue Note jazz with respect to vibe an instrumentation. It may sound cheesy, but this record at times delivers an Astrud Gilbeto / Stan Getz type of warm vibe, but (obviously) influenced by Mexican/Jamaican traditions and not Brazilian Bossa Nova. KING HAMMOND is Nick Welsh. He is a musician, producer, and songwriter from the United Kingdom. He is by far one of the most prolific ska/reggae musicians on either side of the pond, his resume includes PRINCE BUSTER, LAUREL AITKEN, DAVE BARKER, RICO RODRIGUEZ, and JUDGE DREAD. Nick also played on LEE ‘SCRATCH’ PERRY’S Grammy Award winning album “Jamaican ET’. As a bassist and song writer in BAD MANNERS and THE SELECTER, he was integral to both band’s post 2-TONE success. “THE BEAT IS BLUE” is recorded in 60’s British Blue Beat style, these songs are a throwback to the heyday of the label who made household names of LAUREL AITKEN and PRINCE BUSTER. BLUE BEAT recordings were often recorded in London with well known musicians such as GEORGIE FAME and EZZ RECO, creating a distinctly British take on Jamaican SKA. In addition to appealing to the West Indian community in the UK, BLUE BEAT was played alongside soul sides at Northern clubs and became associated with the British Mods and skinheads of the mid to late 60s. JUMP UP began working with MONTY back in 2014, when he was paired with THE BISHOPS for a live Jamaican Oldies concert at Chicago’s Mayne Stage. The partnership blossomed into a 7″ single early in 2015, then MONTY worked with SOUL RADICS for a second 7″ single later that year. In 2016 he toured around the USA with THE BISHOPS and began recording tracks for this full length album. As a teaser we first released a 7″ single featuring two classic SYMARIP tunes redone: “Skin Flint” and “Fung Shu”.  The full length album has landed on red vinyl and slimline CD – get ready for some of that ol' moonstomping! Napoleon Solo formed in the summer of 1984 by eight youngsters living in Copenhagen, their unique blend of sixties-influenced soul, R&B, Jamaican ska and British Two-Tone proved to be a massive success from the get-go. In 1988 Napoleon Solo went to England to record the first mini-LP ”How To Steal The World”, it was produced by Buster Bloodwessel of Bad Manners and released on Unicorn Records. For this special release, we have dug into the archives and have resurrected 6 songs that pre-date “How To Steal The World” – originally only released on limited edition cassette tapes. “ This “Official Bootleg” vinyl collection is very limited for the holiday season, only 100 copies exist on marble colored vinyl.

Denmark’s smart-dressed Nutty Boys NAPOLEON SOLO! are the missing link connecting 2-TONE with the first European ska explosion at the end of the 80’s – and their first new studio album since 1989  has arrived! NAPOLEON SOLO’s unique blend of British 2 Tone, Jamaican ska, and rhythm & blues mixed with sixites-style soul has attracted legions of fans worldwide since their formation in 1984. In fact, as early as 1988 BUSTER BLOODVESSEL of BAD MANNERS championed the band and produced their first mini-album “How To Steal The World” for Unicorn Records. He also presented them to UK fans on the legendary Blue Beat Explosion Tour, which featured BAD MANNERS (UK), BIM SKALA BIM (USA), and future PORK PIE acts SKAOS and THE BRACES. After that tour New Music Express proclaimed NAPOLEON SOLO as one of the top 10 ska bands in the entire world! NAPOLEON SOLO followed up on this success by releasing a new album “SHOT!” in 1989 on Intermusic Denmark and on Bloodvessel’s BLUE BEAT in the UK. This just happened to be the same year PORK PIE was founded, and after a successful tour of Germany the album was also released by the pioneering ska imprint. Fast-forward to 2011, NAPOLEON SOLO reunited for the re-launch of the London International Ska Festival, and also released their tribute song “We Are Copenha-gen”’ for the FC København football club. That same year they shared the stage with THE SPECIALS in their hometown, a lifelong dream for the band. In 2015 the band released a bit of holiday cheer in the form of a cover version of SLADE’s “MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYBODY”, which was issued as a split 7” vinyl single in 2016 alongside fellow countrymen LEO & THE LINEUP. A year later the band’s earliest studio recordings were resurrected from their cassette-only status on the limited edition vinyl collection “EARLY RECORDINGS First Demos 1984-1985” – at the same time the band announced they would release a brand new album! On this new 15 track album the band stays true to form, remaining loyal to their soul/ska sound including fresh new versions of demo/live classics “0059”, “Nobody Told Me” , “House Conflict” and “Video Brainwash” –  and right from the opener “All I Need” it’s immediately clear that this long awaited new album fires on all cylinders, danceable ska and soulful reggae from the first to the last groove.
