Sylvia Pinto, also known as Valia Rees, is a Colombian Drum and Bass DJ and producer who perfectly represents the industrial sound characteristic of Bogota, her hometown. Valia showed a great interest in music from an early age, being part of her school choir and later taking private bass lessons. When it came time to decide on her university career, she chose to study production and sound design. Unfortunately, due to the pandemic, she was unable to complete her studies. 
During lockdown, she decided to start mixing and acquired a controller with which she practiced for several months. She then decided to take a professional DJ course to perfect her technique. 
From that moment on, her career as a DJ began, and Valia's project was born.


With her ever-evolving talent and passion for Drum and Bass, Valia is a DJ who is making her mark on the music scene. Her sets are characterized by an elaborate progression. Her musical style ranges from Intelligent music, Liquid DnB, and Deep DnB, with a marked influence of genres such as Jazz, Blues, Soul, and R&amp;B. Her ability to mix frenetic beats and deep bass makes her an artist you can't stop listening to. She has performed in several clubs and radio stations around Europe, the UK, and Colombia, playing alongside recognized artists such as Goldie and Interplanetary Criminal.

Exactly ten years ago, on the 9th of December 2009, josh-hill started the Interstellar Transmission series on jungletrain.net. The show had a focus on minimal half step drum & bass tracks at around 170 bpm, made popular by the Autonomic podcast series.

In the past couple of years, a trend emerged where labels and artists started releasing music at both 170 and 130 bpm. Already a fan of that specific slow, pounding, ponderous ambient sound, now even slower and bombastic, josh-hill adopted this trend without pause, showcasing this newfound love in the weekly Interstellar Transmission sessions.

In this month's promomix, josh-hill takes you on a journey into this new world of 130 versus 170 bpm, each tempo represented twice by the same 11 artists. Be prepared for vast soundscapes and slow, devastating subs that will force you to reflect upon life, the universe and everything.
