If I Started From Scratch is a song about how loneliness affects our lives and how important good relationships are to our health. I felt it was a very relevant topic considering the world we're living in.

I feel sad for the people that are part of the "75 year study", in that the lessons we've learned from observing their lives are too late for them. It's too late for them to start from scratch. But, as life starts to return to normality here, it's hopefully not too late for us to take those lessons and reawaken our old connections and relationships.

I started this when I was deeply in love with a pop song. I listened to it hundreds of times. I loved the rhythm of the synths and how they intertwined with the drums, the space of it. This doesn't have a lot of space, but if you know the tune, the influence is *probably* pretty obvious.

It sat unfinished for a few years til Corona times kicked in. Here it is, a few weeks and about 30 BSODs later.

The name comes from the synth I used for it, the Yamaha SK-10. And that's it.

I have a bit of a running theme going at the moment with naming songs after the main synth I used on it. Last time round, it was the Yamaha SK-10. This time, it's U-he's fantastic TyrellN6. https://u-he.com/products/tyrelln6/

Here's where another running theme starts, this time a Blade Runner theme. This synth's name is a combination of Eldon Tyrell, founder of the Tyrell Corporation, and the N6 (or Nexus 6) replicants who were the pinnacle of android technology/rebelling robot slaves in the film. 

The name of this synth always makes me think of the scene where Deckard meets Tyrell (and Rachael) for the first time and the enigmatic Tyrell asks him to demonstrate the Voight-Kamff test. 

Tyrell asks him to see what a negative test looks like before he provides him with a positive. 

What's that gonna prove, Deckard asks. 

"...Indulge me", he replies.
