DON GOLIATH Badman Sound Ft Taranthriller   Remixed By Kafra And Bob Rider

It’s been nine years since Tom Holkenborg last released under his Junkie XL alias. In those years, Holkenborg has become one of Hollywood’s pre-eminent film composers, working on projects like Zack Snyder’s Justice League, Mad Max: Fury Road, Deadpool and Alita: Battle Angel, collaborating with directors like Robert Rodriguez, James Cameron, Zack Snyder, George Miller, Tim Miller and Peter Jackson.

While working on the Netflix series White Lines set in Ibiza, Tom was inspired to revisit his dance music past. He wrote a series of tracks that he sent to old friend Sasha for feedback, and after playing the tracks out, Sasha asked to release them on his label. 

“These tracks were something fun and personal for me, a chance to stretch my dancefloor muscles again, after recalling so many of my Ibiza memories during White Lines,” said Holkenborg. “They are quite different from the classic Junkie XL sound, and I never had any intention of releasing them, but when Sasha asked me too, I couldn’t say no.”

Holkenborg has a long association with Sasha from early in his Junkie XL career, helping to produce Sasha’s 2002 acclaimed debut album airdrawndagger and then later collaborating to release the seminal progressive track Breezer. Sasha was an early champion of Junkie XL in the dance scene adding Future In Computerhell Part II to his Global Underground Ibiza compilation. 

The single 'A Fluff Scam' will be out on December 3rd on Last Night On Earth, followed by the full EP on December 10th.

As Junkie XL, Holkenborg released six albums, and toured as a live act between 1995 and 2014. A key figure in the Dutch rave scene he headlined major dance festivals and clubs across the globe. Junkie XL collaborated with artists ranging from Gary Numan, Chuck D, Dave Gahan, Robert Smith, Madonna and many others, and famously topped charts around the world with his remix of Elvis Presley’s ‘A Little Less Conversation’.

ABOUT RIZIK

R I Ż I K is the artist project of Los Angeles musician and producer Hisham Dahud. 

A self-taught multi-instrumentalist since childhood, Hisham has long been influenced by a wide range of musical styles, but put his creative ambitions on hold for a decade working behind the scenes for music legends like Richie Hawtin, DJ Shadow and Junkie XL. Unable to ignore his own call to create, he hit an emotional breaking point in 2019. 

“That life was never what I was truly after,” he says. “I fell into a supportive role in music because, frankly, I was never brave enough to commit to being a full-time creator myself. I lived adjacent; a textbook example of a  shadow career', but all that's changed." 

After years of supporting other artists, Rizik was born in order to carve his own path. 
"As far as we know, this is the only life we have. I'd rather take a chance and fall on my face saying 'oh well' than asking 'what if' for the rest of my life." 
Hisham adopted the name Rizik, which loosely translates to the Arabic word for "blessing", as a way to commemorate his new path forward. 

“Rizik serves as a reminder to me, and hopefully others, to fully embrace an innate ability that makes you feel complete," he says. "This has been a cathartic endeavor and hopefully it can serve as a ray of light to anyone stuck in the shadows of their own self-doubt."

ABOUT RIZIK

After putting his creative aspirations on hold for over a decade, 32-year-old Hisham Dahud decided it was now or never.

After a successful run as a respected music marketer and artist educator, he hit an emotional breaking point in 2019 and could no longer ignore the call of artistry.

“Despite whatever success I was seeing on the business side of music, I never once felt this what I was really after,” he says. “I kept honing my craft basically in secret and thinking deeply about who I wanted to be as an artist. The more I followed (and in some cases, even worked with) artists I loved and respected, the more I kept feeling, 'I belong on the creator's side.'"

A self-taught musician since childhood, his artist name Rizik loosely translates to "blessing" in Arabic... but also holds deeper meaning.

“It serves as a reminder to never let go of this innate ability," he says. "I’ve been too scared to fully embrace and accept it as a path for my life—a classic case of imposter syndrome, something I've been battling nearly all my life."

Rizik also happens to be Hisham's mother’s maiden name—his greatest supporter and someone who always trusted him to make the right decisions. This project is also an homage to her.
