In The Mix - The finest DJs from across the globe - and from every end of the genre spectrum – doing what they do best, sharing the music they love.

A decade on from being discovered and released by The Quietus as East India Youth, @william-doyle-609906684 is making as intriguing and inventive work as ever.  

On the eve of his already widely acclaimed new album ‘Great Spans of Muddy Time’, he shares this unique mix especially constructed for Juno Daily and dedicated to the power of the cassette as both a listening and production tool in music.

Making your debut on a label as revered as Theo Parrish's Sound Signature tends to ensure people sit up and take notice. It happened with Marcellus Pittman back in 1999, it happened with Andrew Ashong last year, and it's most certainly happened with Jay Daniel. Released back in September, the Scorpio Rising EP presented Daniel as a producer whose style was wedged somewhere between the scuffed, rawness of Kyle Hall and the underlying warmth of an Omar S track. This auspicious debut hints that Daniel has plenty more to offer and complements his growing reputation among the new generation of Detroit talents as a highly skilled DJ.

A debut set at last year’s Movement festival led the Boiler Room crew to christen Daniel "one of the most exciting new discoveries we made in Detroit," while he also presides over the Fundamentals night with Wild Oats boss Kyle Hall. This was reason enough to extend an invitation to Jay to become the first Detroit resident to contribute a Juno Plus mix this year, and we were pleasantly surprised with the results. As happy as we are when an invited producer or DJ drops a chunk of unreleased material from their contemporaries, it's also nice to see someone elect for a different approach as Daniel has done, sifting through his collection for a wonderfully blended 59 minutes of soul, jazz and hip hop.

Plastik People label head Marc Cotterell steps up to his own imprint here with a vibey EP featuring four cuts that fuse garage, house and jack. Teher are strong US vibes and throwback bassline sounds on the gorgeously smooth and bumping '8 Minutes Of Pleasure' which is defined by a funky sax. 'Soul Glow' has funky samples, rolling drums and some dazzling disco dust sparkled over it while 'This Love Of Mine' gets down to business with a chunky beat, neon pads and a diva vocal to get the hands in the air. Closer 'Get That Feelin' brings the party with more kicking house beats and elastic synths and bass.

Sindh (IDO, Lowless Music) is a project from Louis Rapet which focuses on utilising modular synths and real percussion types to create the ambient spaces and complex grooves that we love so much. 'Gupta Tribes', his first album, is inspired by an old civilization living in India long ago and with it Rapet tries to catch onto the atmospheres of a period where religion and sacred rites represent a big part of the people's lives. There's still a good spread of moods across the eight tracks, from the lively, tribal momentum of 'Sycthians', and 'Spyres', not a million miles from the majesty of KLF's Pure Trance series, to the swampy echoes of 'Ayaka System'.

The REPITCH label started back in 2011. Some 11 years on, and the trio are still very much at the heart of the label's activities, celebrated here with the Dys Functional Electronic Music X compilation

This collection pushes at the edges of the experimental techno genre, whether that be through speed and heaviness (see Buttechno's pummelling 'Ghost Yunost'), smashed up arrangements like opening tune 'Mastice Riddim (VIP Mix)' from Shapednoise and Gabber Eleganza or reconnection with the ruffneck breakbeats that were once an integral part of rave culture (Ascion's 'Plugged' (Heavy-Rotation Mix) and DJ Plant Texture's 'Threat The Music With Respect')

Tantalisingly difficult to categorise, Oiseaux-Tempete return with their sixth studio album, dense and challenging - but also rewarding - as ever and we have the pleasure of premiering one of the cuts from it.
The project is Paris-based but features members of much celebrated acts like SUUNS and Jerusalem In My Heart, and this LP seems to revolve around  centrepiece 'A Man Alone In A One Man Poem', an 11 minute epic of sequencer throb, frantic live drumming and dark poetry.  At the other end of the spectrum, the sonic purity of 'Terminal Velocity' - almost entirely made up of violin notes - and Tortoise-like ambient piece 'Waldganger' provide calming counterpoints.  Unpredictable and unprecedented throughout, however, this is a treat for those who like their music atmospheric and adventurous in equally generous amounts.

A new label out of Mexico, Short Attention Records launches its second release with a five track offering of proper melodic house & techno from Hector Ram with the word 'quality' stamped large upon them
. 'Midnight Sounds' starts things off with the grand rhythmically-building 'Midnight Sounds', almost New Order-esque at times. 'For Our Small Parties' follows, old skool again in flavour, blending subtly employed breaks and a sturdy house framework, then 'Dear Dancefloor', probably the gentlest and most fragile effort here, opens side two. 'On The Road' boasts a more electro feel and Orbital-esque synths, and is deemed worthy of a second airing via a nicely throbbing remix from Detroit's Generation Next closing proceedings.

Lisbon-based Frenchman Brawther, who is also one-half of Dungeon Meat for more raw grooves, shows off his mastery of deep house on this fresh new EP for B2 Recordings. 'Sundials' (feat Nathan Haines) immediately soothes the soul with its lunging chords and seductive sax lines. Occasional female coos add further lushness to this most heartwarming of tunes. 'Second Nature' has a little more height and drive to it but again the drums are warm and fuzzy, the chords smeared in artful ways and the overall vibe utterly heady. Last of all is the bubbly and dubby 'Gotta Let It Go' with its bottomless depths and chords that melt off into an infinite horizon. Gorgeous stuff from this always quality artist.

Chilean artist Magda Rot makes a head-turning debut here with some ice-cold electro rhythms on the Return To Disorder label which is now fast approaching a quarter century of releases. There is no messing with these sounds - they're built on tight, kinetic rhythms with fierce sound designs and stark futurism. 'Triads' is a mix of crisp hits and gurgling synths with dramatic background chords. 'Black Sense' is a slamming cut with a twisted bassline and hammering drum funk and 'Coincidences' brings the chilliness with its frosted lines and cold waves of synth. 'Unusual Theory' shuts down with a far sighted sense of electro-techno doom.

Danza Nativa has done a great job of establishing its own unique sound in the techno sphere over the last half a decade. Now it marks the occasion of its fifth birthday with a two-part compilation that showcases its avant-garde take on the genre. They tell us that part one has been assembled as a sort of "mental (as in pensive, not deranged) techno album that takes the form of some direct tools for working DJs. Anthony Linell, Claudio PRC, Luigi Tozzi and Daniel[I] are those who step up and explore abstract, drone, deep and plenty in between.

Fireground's Love Letter EP on the legendary techno label Tresor delivers a dynamic journey through the realms of early 90s techno and house fusion. On Side-1, 'The Element' ignites the dancefloor with its big, rave-inspired sounds and UK rave influences, while 'Riva' seamlessly blends high-energy house and techno, punctuated by catchy melodic moments. On Side-2, 'Love Letter' takes the listener on a deeper voyage with its mid-90s warehouse vibe, exuding a late-night atmosphere with subtle disco undertones. Closing the EP, 'Etereo' serves as a perfect end-of-the-night track, enveloping the listener in its atmospheric soundscape. Simple Symmetry are back on Calypso for a second offering but this time around it's in a different format. They've enlisted remixes of tracks from their Sorry We Did Something Wrong album which first landed back in 2021 as a self-released project, which won over many fans with a sound that went way beyond the club and now gets repurposed for the dancefloor with extended and club versions. The Horsemen Of Housing & Commercial Services rework of 'Che Che' is a dark disco classic, Smaghhe & Cross rework 'Rounded With A Sleep' into something taught and trippy and INigo Vontier layers in plenty of darkness, grit and grime to his take on 'I Must Not Fear'.

The Danza Nativa label is fresh off the back of a fine fifth birthday celebratory compilation but wastes no time getting back to business. Alderaan is the man in charge with his second for the label and 'Transition' kicks off with some mad LFO business melting your mind. Psyk remixes it into a more paired back and spooky subterranean techno prowler. With 'Vortex' there is yet more nocturnal menace with ticking hi-hats seeing rhythm as squelchy, unsettling sounds peel off the beats. 'Futurismo' closes down with a gurgling lead line and distant sci-fi sounds that complete this most futuristic EP.

The seventh V/A release on Mary Yuzovskaya's Monday Off imprint lands on vinyl, with Viels, ORBE, D-Leria, and Yuzovskaya all contributing tracks. Each artist lending their tender efforts to a mutant techno march, Viels' 'Nero' and Orbe's 'Rigging' provide strong titular clues as to their muses; the first uses both the Latin word for "black" and the name of an ancient Roman emperor, suggesting might, militancy and nyctalopic mis-seeing in its dispatch of a blind sonic firestorm; the latter likens production to construction, with its central, low-sined wayfinder sound effect, and dusty hi-hat caroms, suggesting some vessels have windshields that truly can brave the storm. Yuzovskaya's 'Trouble' lands us in hot water, with its startled, far-off vocal snippets and knockout prattles in the left and right lobes; then there's B-leria's closer 'Battito', a living, breathing planetary entity, prone to emit eerily harmonic Close Encounters-style tones and whose atmosphere we dare not cross.

International Women's Day Mix 2025 - Amaliah

Chucheewa navigates life with music as her guide, embarking on musical journeys with various bands, from the psychedelic soundscape of ‘Cloud Behind’ to the sweet, solemn indie rock of ‘Fwends.’ 'Chucheewa' is another milestone solo project known for her eclectic sound that spans electronic pop, psychedelic, indie rock, and house music, all enhanced by her dreamy, airy voice, adding a unique flavor to Bangkok’s music scene. She is also a current member of the legendary Thai band ‘The Photo Sticker Machine.’

As a singer-songwriter, DJ, and producer, May Chucheewa is a cornerstone of Bangkok’s music scene. This DJ wears many hats, from founding ‘Summer Sound Festival’ and promoting local & international bands on ‘Conflakes.’ She’s also behind ‘SoundKoh Collective’, a label launched in 2021 and known as a former member of a rave duo ‘Acid Sister.’

International Women's Day Mix 2025 - Chucheewa

Drawing inspiration from sounds of the 70s discotheque, the London-based selector keeps people moving with mixes of Disco, Old School House and an eclectic selection of Vocal and Dance tunes. Influenced by 90s music, especially from Chicago & New York, she combines her joy and curiosity of music & dancing by finding new tracks and digging through old records, which she began doing from the age of 12.

Over the past 12 months, MiNNA has been gaining momentum in the clubbing scene, playing for the likes of Glitterbox, Appetite and Disco Disco. She has filled the dance floor at The Jazz Cafe, fabric and KOKO, to name a few, as well as playing at Glastonbury, Lost Village and Houghton Festival. MiNNA has also been making waves overseas in clubs across Europe, such as Tbilisi, the Netherlands, Italy, Berlin and she made her debut in Ibiza last summer. 

"For this mix I played a selection of fresh heat and some old-school sounds that I’m digging at the moment, as well as featuring some female powerhouse vocalists that I love and tracks that get me dancing. Hope you enjoy !"

International Women's Day Mix 2025 - MiNNA

Artist Lebo is a South African-born Afro House and Afro Tech artist renowned for her soulful vocals and ambient sound. Drawing from her roots in the Vaal region, her music blends African rhythms with UK electronic influences, creating a deeply emotive style that resonates with listeners worldwide.

Artist Lebo's talent shines through her collaborations with several respected independent labels. With releases through Khaya Lyf, LUMO Music, Abstract Mood Music, and PM Recordings, she continues to highlight her distinctive sound and dedication to Afro House and Afro Tech. She has also been named one of the "Artists to Watch in 2025" by the prominent music magazine MIXMAG.

As 2025 begins, Artist Lebo embarks on an exciting new project, The Faces Of Afro House—a series of back-to-back sets where she showcases DJs from across the UK within the Afro House space. The series will kick off on 10th March 2025 in Manchester with Crop Radio, and the launch will be streamed live. This series is set to travel across the UK, and shortly after, she plans to take it globally.

International Women's Day Mix 2025 - Artist Lebo

Nancy June is a multi-genre DJ from London with bass at the forefront of her mixes. Over the last few years she has been quickly making a name for herself playing in clubs all over the UK and internationally including Corsica, Light Box and The Cause.

Intertwining old and new sounds her selections showcases the raw city sound, effortlessly gliding between genres including dubstep, breaks, grime and all sounds 140-160. Although expect the unexpected as her mantra in music being ‘anything that sounds good’.

Mono Junk only loosely uses techno as a foundation for exploration of various different forms on this new EP on Cold Blow. The opener has jacked-up beats with an electro feel and prying bass that brings great bounce. 'Gamma' is brilliantly dark and moody with domineering synth notes and shuffling hi-hats getting heads down and feet marching. Katerina's Mind mix of the opener then opens it up into a more expansive and widescreen synth world and the Sansibar is pure muscular rhythm.

Lead track 'Northern Lights' has earth-shattering drum loops and scurrying synth details that sketch out an underwater world dripping with sweat. The Advent needs no introduction – he’s been one of the underground scene’s most ardent and long serving soldiers, simultaneously connecting techno with its b-boy electro roots while pushing the sound forward. In support of his ‘Elektronically Minded Part 2’ EP, made in collaboration with his son Zein Ferreira no less, he’s created an electro-slanted mix especially for us.

Session Victim need little introduction - the German duo of Hauke Freer and Matthias Reiling have been consistent providers of quality house grooves, vinyl only DJ sets (the best, obviously) and hardware only live shows.  Their current EP trilogy for Jimpster's Delusions of Grandeur label is a prime example, with Ian Pooley and Jimpster providing remixes and the likes of Nebraska, Eo and Viken Arman collaborating on the originals.  Here, the pair celebrate the series with a special mixtape...

Cee ElAssaad's ENSOULED label kicks off with a head-turning first release that lays its cards on the table with a powerful title: Freedom, Innovation, Resonance Vol 1. Some of deep house music's most authentic voices contribute, starting with Trinidadian Deep who layers up spiritual synths, organic percussion and smooth beats ina typically cool fashion. The Cee ElAssaad remix brings brighter melodies, keys and jazzy overtones. Boo Williams's 'My Place' is like a busy lava lamp with gloppy keys rising and falling in a thick and velvety arrangement then Cee ElAssaad and Doug Gomez shut down with the steamy late night house of 'Jam It To The Riddim'.

Nico Lahs is back on his home label U Fit with another effortlessly classy house EP. This is the latest in a long line of accomplished outings from this prolific producer and, as always, it manages to subtly straddle different worlds. 'Do What U Feel' is vibey house with excitable drums and chords that get you wanting to move, then 'Get Away' sinks you into a sun-kissed Mediterranean house sound awash with breezy chords. 'Losing Respect' is darker, more gritty and dusty, then a Specter remix flips 'Get Away' into a timeless deep house jaunt with real Chicago roots.

Three years after his debut album, London-based Jeigo levels up with a new long player that displays his knack for meaningful melodies and deft rhythms while blurring the lines between ambient, garage and breaks. Inspired by three months on an olive oil farm in rural Italy, there is a beautiful sense of isolation and inward reflection to these sounds, even when the energy ramps up. Sultry, airy vocals and delicate strings weave between organic grooves on the opener, while pitched-up and pained tones bring a futurist twist to the paddy garage beats of 'Echoes.' There is a more warped low end and hints of Burial's ghostly vocal and drum designs on 'Emptiness' while 'Groundwater' is shuffling house suffused with luminous synth work that brings a nostalgic pang. Etum is a masterfully melancholic study that leaves a lasting emotional impact.

Now splitting time between Berlin and Paris, Whitney recently celebrated 11 years on Rinse France and continues to be a fixture in cutting-edge queer nightlife worldwide. Bulgarian-born, Berlin-based producer Alper Durmush aka Imperieux adds to a strong run for Macro with a new seven-track touchdown, 'In & Out', tightening the scope he first widened on the 'Rezil' and 'Fena' EPs. Here, Alper Durmus folds his distinctive percussive language into sleek, rhythm-fated forms, from the roughworked propulsion of 'Gips' and the spiralling lift of 'Baka' to the darbuka-fuelled charge of 'Duman'; there's a global nuance here, as modernist, tressling techno holds up many styles under its own immanent weight.

They say that restriction is often the mother of creativity and in the case of this album from Morning Seance, the Vienna-based purveyor of (in his words) "surreal electronics and degenerate ambient music", it would definitely seem the case. He created the ten tracks here on just one instrument, the Roland Alpha Juno-1, stretching the instrument's capabilities into hitherto unencountered shapes and sounds. Nevertheless, there's a gorgeous spread of styles here, not to mention some excellent track titles, from 'Eternal Life Makes Your Past Grow Too Big' - imagine Philip Glass making his Sahko debut - to the more celestial drone of 'Don't Ask, Don't Pray'. If you feel you've heard it all already with ambient music, try this and surprise yourself.

Toronto-based musician and producer David Psutka has resuscitated his long dormant Egyptrixx alias – originally part of the legendary Night Slugs crew alongside L-Vis 1990, Bok Bok and Ikonika - and is preparing to drop a new album, How Tidal, on his own Halocline Trance label.  Here, he celebrates the album’s imminent arrival with a selection of faves and exclusives from the Halocline Trance vaults.

A very tasty mix of low key disco shimmy and downbeat Balearic blissfulness from Genevan producer Mirlaqi, diving in with a four sided double album after a string of EPs for various esteemed European labels.  Both sides of that musical coin are nicely polished, with a luxurious sheen courtesy of laid back, (mainly) French language spoken word vocals, bewitching flute twittering and snazzy synth work.   From the glitterball meets jazz strut of  ‘Prendre Le Soleil’, highly suitable for house set warm up eras, to the lazily lolloping ‘La Cascade’, dramatic but very chilled, there’s a lot of nimble musicianship going on here, but none of it ever gets in the way of a decent groove.

To mark the occasion, he’s sharing two hours of his epic set for Radio Radio during this year’s ADE event in Holland with Juno Daily readers.

A four headed electro beast from Norwich’s Luke Sanger, more normally associated with sparkling techno productions, but proving here that’s he’s more than capable of transferring both his love of a characterful, quirky sonic and his instinct for filling dancefloors to this minor diversion of sorts.  The title track opens proceedings with some wonderful elastic bassline behaviour and sturdy drum machinations, while ‘Spambot’ – a late contender for the best named electro track of 2025 – goes for a blizzard of different tones held together by a rock solid snare. Flip it over for more electronics on the verge of a nervous breakdown via ‘Crunchy Data’ and the EP’s most boisterous and thumping moment, ‘Data Infection’. So much electro these days apes what came before it, whether that be Kraftwerk, Mantronix or Drexciya. This, on the other hand, is nothing like anything else you ever heard, and all the more thrilling as a result.

PREMIERE: Luke Sanger – ‘Crunchy Data’ (No Static/Automatic)

N-Type is a name synonymous with early dubstep sounds, the producer being part of a tiny handful of Croydon-based producers who mutated UK garage, d&b, hip-hop and dub influences into a unique sound that quickly spread globally.  Somewhat amazingly, he’s just released his first album, after several decades of crucial EPs and singles, and here he celebrates Typography with LP highlights alongside a selection of archive classics from his Wheel & Deal label.

Toronto-born and Berlin-based DJ, producer, and label founder Andre Zimmer draws on jacking Chicago house for his latest ‘Bountiful’ EP for his Big Trouble Records – and he marks its release with a mix for Juno Daily influenced by those classic sounds, tech house rollers and tribal percussive energy.

Last week brought the welcome news Detlef Weinrich had opened up his archive of unreleased Tolouse Low Trax material spanning the past 10 years to Paris label Antinote for a trilogy of records. We noted this was coming at a time the former Kriedler band member was starting to get wider exposure for his own distinct brand of idiosyncratic dancefloor material; his Rushing Into Water 12" for local Düsseldorf label being among this year's best releases. A commission to remix Sano for the Colombian's incoming return to Cómeme is further evidence of this belated and well deserved rise for Tolouse Low Trax. There is of course a shared love of electronic music production at its most basic that ensures a Tolouse Low Trax appearance on Cómeme makes perfect sense, and you could argue that much of Weinrich's work sounds like a track from Matias Aguayo's label played at the wrong speed.

However, Weinrich's source material for his self-styled Tolouse Low Trax Interview Remix, Sano's "La Grúa" is much closer to the tempo he operates at. The first tangible material since his self-titled Sano LP some three years ago, Sebastian Hoyos toys around with a famous break on "La Grúa" at a pace that would perk the ears of Andrew Weatherall. On the Tolouse Low Trax remix, the sense of space is all the more apparent and finely complemented by some creeping vocal samples - stream it in full below.

“The vibe I was feeling was tactile, warm and grateful,” Leah told us about the mix, “I was thinking about some of the good things that happened this year - that my loved ones are alive and well.”

@jack-the-box-official is the project put together by Chicago house and hip-house legend Tyree Cooper and Berlin’s Bobby Starrr, one of the bosses of self-styled ‘hipster house’ stable Hypernatural Recordings.  The pair hooked up in Berlin and became well known for their raucous parties at the world famous Tresor Club, where they eschewed the traditional introspective and minimal techno stylings most associated with the German capital in favour of big vocals, big hooks and all round big fun.  

Extending their partnership beyond the decks and into the studio, their ‘Side A’ album (featuring a legion of guests including the  Jungle Brothers) was recently re-issued ahead of the anticipated release of ‘Side B’ later in 2021.  Here they take us through the elements that helped define their sound both as a DJ pairing and studio buddies.

@thisispela the Brighton based duo of Hannah Coombes (vocals) and Olly Shelton (production) – put their unique stamp on last year with a seemingly neverending stream of singles that blended the beats and bass of club culture with songwriting nouse and an icy synthpop attitude.  

For our Juno Daily – In The Mix session they weave a clever concoction of their favourite sounds, from Bicep and Disclosure to their own productions.

In The Mix: PELA

Glasgow's enigmatic @ufaze celebrates the imminent launch of his Slow Process label by rolling out an ice cold electro session for Juno Daily's In The Mix series.    

The label - "Glasgow based, although I'm not overly bothered about pushing it as a “Glasgow label” though" - is set to kick off with a Ufaze 12” coming soon, with plans for expanding the roster and getting more on board to follow soon after.  This mix, he says, should serve as a bit of an introduction to the label and where it  will be coming from soundwise, and judging by its tracklisting – everything from Decal to Drexciya and Aphex Twin to dBridge – the nation’s record buyers are in for a treat.
