Plastik People label head Marc Cotterell steps up to his own imprint here with a vibey EP featuring four cuts that fuse garage, house and jack. Teher are strong US vibes and throwback bassline sounds on the gorgeously smooth and bumping '8 Minutes Of Pleasure' which is defined by a funky sax. 'Soul Glow' has funky samples, rolling drums and some dazzling disco dust sparkled over it while 'This Love Of Mine' gets down to business with a chunky beat, neon pads and a diva vocal to get the hands in the air. Closer 'Get That Feelin' brings the party with more kicking house beats and elastic synths and bass.

Sindh (IDO, Lowless Music) is a project from Louis Rapet which focuses on utilising modular synths and real percussion types to create the ambient spaces and complex grooves that we love so much. 'Gupta Tribes', his first album, is inspired by an old civilization living in India long ago and with it Rapet tries to catch onto the atmospheres of a period where religion and sacred rites represent a big part of the people's lives. There's still a good spread of moods across the eight tracks, from the lively, tribal momentum of 'Sycthians', and 'Spyres', not a million miles from the majesty of KLF's Pure Trance series, to the swampy echoes of 'Ayaka System'.

The REPITCH label started back in 2011. Some 11 years on, and the trio are still very much at the heart of the label's activities, celebrated here with the Dys Functional Electronic Music X compilation

This collection pushes at the edges of the experimental techno genre, whether that be through speed and heaviness (see Buttechno's pummelling 'Ghost Yunost'), smashed up arrangements like opening tune 'Mastice Riddim (VIP Mix)' from Shapednoise and Gabber Eleganza or reconnection with the ruffneck breakbeats that were once an integral part of rave culture (Ascion's 'Plugged' (Heavy-Rotation Mix) and DJ Plant Texture's 'Threat The Music With Respect')

Tantalisingly difficult to categorise, Oiseaux-Tempete return with their sixth studio album, dense and challenging - but also rewarding - as ever and we have the pleasure of premiering one of the cuts from it.
The project is Paris-based but features members of much celebrated acts like SUUNS and Jerusalem In My Heart, and this LP seems to revolve around  centrepiece 'A Man Alone In A One Man Poem', an 11 minute epic of sequencer throb, frantic live drumming and dark poetry.  At the other end of the spectrum, the sonic purity of 'Terminal Velocity' - almost entirely made up of violin notes - and Tortoise-like ambient piece 'Waldganger' provide calming counterpoints.  Unpredictable and unprecedented throughout, however, this is a treat for those who like their music atmospheric and adventurous in equally generous amounts.

A new label out of Mexico, Short Attention Records launches its second release with a five track offering of proper melodic house & techno from Hector Ram with the word 'quality' stamped large upon them
. 'Midnight Sounds' starts things off with the grand rhythmically-building 'Midnight Sounds', almost New Order-esque at times. 'For Our Small Parties' follows, old skool again in flavour, blending subtly employed breaks and a sturdy house framework, then 'Dear Dancefloor', probably the gentlest and most fragile effort here, opens side two. 'On The Road' boasts a more electro feel and Orbital-esque synths, and is deemed worthy of a second airing via a nicely throbbing remix from Detroit's Generation Next closing proceedings.

Roe Deers’ debut full-length album “Salt Town Boy” ﬁlled with dusky moods and punk attitude was released last November on Good Skills. Unique storytelling vocal contributors from all over the world and six years of Deers’ work in the studio was mixed into unique left ﬁeld collection. Now we get a collection of remixes, featuring this killer cut from Eden Burns. 

@djedenburns went for “Trident (feat. C. A. R.) and turned the dubby original into an early morning danceﬂoor hit. Filled with smiles and positive vibes, his remix is perfect for sunrise in Nida.

Organic Analogue makes it to double figures with a sublime new split EP from HVL and Gacha Bakradze. The A-side is opened up with 'Infinitesimal', a stripped back and icy bit of minimal dub techno, then 'AgneffC01' gets more rhythmically physical with scattered beats and hits and 'Collective Genius' is tense, kinetic techno with a real sense of paranoia. 'Routes' is the first B-side joint with Gacha Bakradze bringing some direct but economical drum machine grooves under meticulous percussion and then 'Chain' layers smeared cosmic pads with twitchy details and 'Widow' ends with a heavy heart. No wonder, then, that a host of eminent DJs like Ben UFO are all over it.

Lisbon-based Frenchman Brawther, who is also one-half of Dungeon Meat for more raw grooves, shows off his mastery of deep house on this fresh new EP for B2 Recordings. 'Sundials' (feat Nathan Haines) immediately soothes the soul with its lunging chords and seductive sax lines. Occasional female coos add further lushness to this most heartwarming of tunes. 'Second Nature' has a little more height and drive to it but again the drums are warm and fuzzy, the chords smeared in artful ways and the overall vibe utterly heady. Last of all is the bubbly and dubby 'Gotta Let It Go' with its bottomless depths and chords that melt off into an infinite horizon. Gorgeous stuff from this always quality artist.

Five tracks from the Ukraine-born Omon Breaker, who hooked after with the BITE label having relocated to Berlin in 2022 following the invasion by Russian forces.  The sonic palate is varied, drawing from deeper, darker, sparse techno on 'Aldea Malvada' to more energetic, trance-like patterns on 'Augmentation' (which also features BITE's label head Phase Fatale) and the all out space wars soundtrack of 'Unidentified', laying out a solidifying aural agenda as the five tracks unfold.

Chilean artist Magda Rot makes a head-turning debut here with some ice-cold electro rhythms on the Return To Disorder label which is now fast approaching a quarter century of releases. There is no messing with these sounds - they're built on tight, kinetic rhythms with fierce sound designs and stark futurism. 'Triads' is a mix of crisp hits and gurgling synths with dramatic background chords. 'Black Sense' is a slamming cut with a twisted bassline and hammering drum funk and 'Coincidences' brings the chilliness with its frosted lines and cold waves of synth. 'Unusual Theory' shuts down with a far sighted sense of electro-techno doom.

The fledgling Deeppa label is back with a seventh sublime sound, this time from Eloi who brings plenty of fresh ideas and creative sound designs to four tasteful cuts. 'You'll Keep Going' is a lush late-night fusion of noodling basslines and jazzy chords with soulful vocals and 'Karma' then gets even more horizontal in balmy chords and lazy grooves. There is a little more bite to 'Manage Your Temper' but it is still a super cuddly house sound. On the flip, 'Mental Game' offers hazy late-night reveries and 'Confusion' is a swirling mix of warm and soulful house. 'A Few More Breaks Should Do The Trick' is a jazzy and zoned-out closer. What an EP.

Seven arresting, original new exercises from E-Saggila aka Canadian producer Rita Mikhael. She wears her love of dub on her sleeve - see the slow motion skank of 'Amnesiac' aming others - but not in the usual reassuring, bubbling echoes of dub techno, aiming for something much more angular and alarming. "Breaks remain staccato hammers," says the blurb, with maximum accuracy, "and kicks are cast to negate cardiac systems," while the rhythms veer from off kilter to nailed down and the sonics vary from the lush to the caustic. This territory to the left(field) of electronica is over saturated with identikit productions, but Mikhael does it like you've never quite heard before.

The super French crew Hard Fist have got a brilliantly twisted new Balearic record on their hands here thanks to the work of Shkema in both original and remix mode. He goes first with the deep, dubby and post-punk moodiness of 'Tas Malonumas' then 'Room Of Men Eaters' is a chugging deep disco cut with a fine vocoder vocal that brings some trippiness. 'Sarka Syrkaza' on the flip is another dark one with twisted metal guitar lines and rooted drum drums, then he remixes Afrodelic's 'Je N'Aime Pas Les Fetes' into a loose-limbed and percussive dub disco delight with filtered and freaky vocals.

Danza Nativa has done a great job of establishing its own unique sound in the techno sphere over the last half a decade. Now it marks the occasion of its fifth birthday with a two-part compilation that showcases its avant-garde take on the genre. They tell us that part one has been assembled as a sort of "mental (as in pensive, not deranged) techno album that takes the form of some direct tools for working DJs. Anthony Linell, Claudio PRC, Luigi Tozzi and Daniel[I] are those who step up and explore abstract, drone, deep and plenty in between.

Fireground's Love Letter EP on the legendary techno label Tresor delivers a dynamic journey through the realms of early 90s techno and house fusion. On Side-1, 'The Element' ignites the dancefloor with its big, rave-inspired sounds and UK rave influences, while 'Riva' seamlessly blends high-energy house and techno, punctuated by catchy melodic moments. On Side-2, 'Love Letter' takes the listener on a deeper voyage with its mid-90s warehouse vibe, exuding a late-night atmosphere with subtle disco undertones. Closing the EP, 'Etereo' serves as a perfect end-of-the-night track, enveloping the listener in its atmospheric soundscape. Firegrounds' talented ability to mix nostalgic elements with contemporary production techniques shines throughout Love Letter, making it a peak time record that will go over great at the disco.

Berlin-based artist Pavel Milyakov collaborates with Yana Pavlova, Martyna Basta, Richie Culver and Torus on Enthropic Vision, an album-length collection of tracks spanning diverse genres. The A-side starts with the melancholic ambience of 'Moon Chant', featuring the ethereal vocals of Krakow experimental music scene veteran Martyna Basta, before 'Tesco' brings bleak trancey loops blended with British contemporary artist Richie Culver's spoken word poetry. 'Eternal Break', with Netherlands-based artist Torus, is all low subs, ecstatic pads and abrasive breaks, then the B-side kicks in with a'Gabba 17' - not a 170bpm gabba anthem, but rather a ghostly techno workout with an admittedly urgent 4/4 kick - and continues with another tune featuring Richie Culver's spoken word fused with breaks. The album closes with the grim beauty of 'The Thrill', recorded in collaboration with Ukrainian singer Yana Pavlova and transports more wised up listeners back to the hypnagogic universe of the duo's 2021 Blue LP.

Uladzimir Patapenka is a name you might not know, but you may know that he previously worked under the LIPSKI alias. It's a lush and rich sound with great instrumental grooves and catchy hooks. Toby Marks aka. Banco De Gaia is one of the foremost producers to ever operate in the crossover of breakbeat and 'tribal'. That pairing of associations might seem naff to some music fans now, but no performative dismissal on the grounds of any connotative problematic can ever detract from the inpourings of ardour and talent gone into his albums. Trauma is marks Marks' first record in nearly ten years, following on from The 9th Of Nine Hearts, and hears the esteemed trance-gressor continue to eke a sound rooted in the oblique, yet inspirationally powerful themes of global sufferance and idealism, both of which find their expression in the weighty, acidic dreamworlds of 'War' and 'The Dying Light', which are complex in mood and express a real ambivalence through their concurrent use of deep stereo padwork and poignant vocal sampleage. Far from indulging a mood of pure resignation, Marks crafts a dance-musical dreamworld that demands analysis, through which Trauma refers not to a wound, but to a dream.

The Danza Nativa label is fresh off the back of a fine fifth birthday celebratory compilation but wastes no time getting back to business. Alderaan is the man in charge with his second for the label and 'Transition' kicks off with some mad LFO business melting your mind. Psyk remixes it into a more paired back and spooky subterranean techno prowler. With 'Vortex' there is yet more nocturnal menace with ticking hi-hats seeing rhythm as squelchy, unsettling sounds peel off the beats. 'Futurismo' closes down with a gurgling lead line and distant sci-fi sounds that complete this most futuristic EP.

Westcoast Goddess is an enigmatic producer who betrays a love of 90s house and tech and golden-era r&b on this fresh new EP for Intrinsic Rhythm. It is a perfect mix of quality electronic production and good-time vibes: the loose, tumbling drums of 'Fallin' come with wispy synths and heart-aching vocal samples. 'Time 4 Change' is more deep and meditative and 'Change Is Comin'' picks up the pace with some snappier drums and snares under a gospel-style vocal chorus. 'One O' These Days' brings steamy and squelchy bassline funk to the party.

Irish DJ and producer Gavin Mac Donagh aka GAMADON runs the vinyl label Warehouse Manifesto (WM), that has been based in London for the past three years but will be relocating to Ireland in the coming months. The WM label operates the harder side of electro and techno and so does this mix, which somewhat amazingly includes all 30 tracks from the first five releases on his label.  We’re fans - and so are The Prodigy, who invited him to play at their shows in Berlin, Hanover, Prague and Luxembourg between 2015-2016. Press play to find out why.

The second in the HouseHeadz00 Series, The Black Edition, is “a masterful exploration of house music’s rich and varied landscape.” The EP take in four tracks that combine seamlessly blend different subgenres into one complete listening experience. ‘Recuerdo’ goes for classic house with its vibrant pianos and uplifting melodies, ‘Desire’ heads deeper with hypnotic beats and lush textures. On the flip, ‘Dream’ does what it says on the tin, enveloping you in a woozy, dreamlike state with intricate layers and ethereal sounds, before ‘Ever’ introduces a soulful dimension with smooth vocals and emotive harmonies. Something for everyone, pretty much.

PREMIERE: HouseHeadz - Ever

Long before The Stone Roses and Happy Mondays fused dance music with beats, Rolo McGinty and The Woodentops were being played in Ibiza and getting On-U Sound man Adrian Sherwood to remix them. Their live version of 'Why Why Why' - recorded in Los Angeles the night the band first experienced Ecstasy - was played by DJs as diverse as Fabio & Grooverider, Trevor Fung and Paul Oakenfold, the latter signing it for the first ever Balearic Beats collection.  When legal wrangles caused them to put The Woodentops name on hold, McGinty went on to become Pluto and an integral part of part of Mr C's pivotal early 90s house/techno Plink Plonk crew, programming many of the label's key tunes as well as productions for Robert Owens, Orbital and many others. To celebrate the release of a 12" of remixes of The Woodentops' 'A Pact', he's only gone and done us a classic, house-leaning mix of reworks, rare tracks and deep cuts.

Bloody Mary's Alternate States Of Reality on Dame Music delivers a powerful exploration of techno's diverse sounds. Side-1 opens with 'Reality One' (Acid mix), a heavy-hitting track drenched in mid-90s acid energy. The buildup is intense, leading to an explosive release that captures the essence of classic acid techno. Following it is 'Reality Two' (alternative mix), which shifts the vibe with a breakbeat/electro twist, introducing a darker, moodier melody. Flipping to Side 2, 'Reality Three' (909 mix) brings in a more percussive and straightforward warehouse techno feel. It's a banger designed for peak-time moments on the dancefloor. The 'Reality Three' (Slam mix) remix adds a Detroit flavour, playing with tempo shifts that keep the listener on their toes. It’s two legends for the price of one here at Juno Daily. Inspired by the chartbusting Stars On 45 singles of the 80s, electronic maverick Scanner used the same hit-after-hit technique to create mixes of some of his favourite artists during lockdown. Specialising in magical, experimental but still pulsating, floor-pleasing techno, Hungary-based DJ Enicroa caught Juno Daily’s attention when she guested on the Budapest edition of the Miller Mix event, winning her place via a nationwide Beatport competition. Being the pushy types we are, we immediately asked her to do a mix for us – and she did.

The Mole's latest offering, 'High Dreams', is a no-nonsense collection of four tracks that dives straight into the depths of jacking house rhythms and eerie sonic landscapes. With three originals and a remix by Circus Company staple Dave Aju, the EP embraces both the physical and the abstract, delivering groove-laden basslines alongside spectral, almost otherworldly textures. 'Losing Track' sets the tone with its hypnotic pulse, while 'Climbers Pit' brings in Joli B and Danuel Tate for a rich fusion of keys, vibes, and Emaxx layering. The remix of 'Losing Track' by Dave Aju strips back the original and builds it up with fresh percussion, adding a modern twist that feels grounded yet forward-thinking. 'Youandthekitten' rounds things out with a playful but deep tech-house groove, keeping the energy consistent. Known for his discography with labels like Perlon, Kompakt, and Ostgut Ton, The Mole has cemented his place in the underground scene. This EP reminds listeners that he's still crafting imaginative dancefloor gems, while Aju's remix keeps things unpredictable. High Dreams is an understated yet bold continuation of The Mole's journey through both the cerebral and visceral spaces of electronic music.

The seventh V/A release on Mary Yuzovskaya's Monday Off imprint lands on vinyl, with Viels, ORBE, D-Leria, and Yuzovskaya all contributing tracks. Each artist lending their tender efforts to a mutant techno march, Viels' 'Nero' and Orbe's 'Rigging' provide strong titular clues as to their muses; the first uses both the Latin word for "black" and the name of an ancient Roman emperor, suggesting might, militancy and nyctalopic mis-seeing in its dispatch of a blind sonic firestorm; the latter likens production to construction, with its central, low-sined wayfinder sound effect, and dusty hi-hat caroms, suggesting some vessels have windshields that truly can brave the storm. Yuzovskaya's 'Trouble' lands us in hot water, with its startled, far-off vocal snippets and knockout prattles in the left and right lobes; then there's B-leria's closer 'Battito', a living, breathing planetary entity, prone to emit eerily harmonic Close Encounters-style tones and whose atmosphere we dare not cross.

Last week brought the welcome news Detlef Weinrich had opened up his archive of unreleased Tolouse Low Trax material spanning the past 10 years to Paris label Antinote for a trilogy of records. We noted this was coming at a time the former Kriedler band member was starting to get wider exposure for his own distinct brand of idiosyncratic dancefloor material; his Rushing Into Water 12" for local Düsseldorf label being among this year's best releases. A commission to remix Sano for the Colombian's incoming return to Cómeme is further evidence of this belated and well deserved rise for Tolouse Low Trax. There is of course a shared love of electronic music production at its most basic that ensures a Tolouse Low Trax appearance on Cómeme makes perfect sense, and you could argue that much of Weinrich's work sounds like a track from Matias Aguayo's label played at the wrong speed.

However, Weinrich's source material for his self-styled Tolouse Low Trax Interview Remix, Sano's "La Grúa" is much closer to the tempo he operates at. The first tangible material since his self-titled Sano LP some three years ago, Sebastian Hoyos toys around with a famous break on "La Grúa" at a pace that would perk the ears of Andrew Weatherall. On the Tolouse Low Trax remix, the sense of space is all the more apparent and finely complemented by some creeping vocal samples - stream it in full below.

“The vibe I was feeling was tactile, warm and grateful,” Leah told us about the mix, “I was thinking about some of the good things that happened this year - that my loved ones are alive and well.”

@jack-the-box-official is the project put together by Chicago house and hip-house legend Tyree Cooper and Berlin’s Bobby Starrr, one of the bosses of self-styled ‘hipster house’ stable Hypernatural Recordings.  The pair hooked up in Berlin and became well known for their raucous parties at the world famous Tresor Club, where they eschewed the traditional introspective and minimal techno stylings most associated with the German capital in favour of big vocals, big hooks and all round big fun.  

Extending their partnership beyond the decks and into the studio, their ‘Side A’ album (featuring a legion of guests including the  Jungle Brothers) was recently re-issued ahead of the anticipated release of ‘Side B’ later in 2021.  Here they take us through the elements that helped define their sound both as a DJ pairing and studio buddies.

@thisispela the Brighton based duo of Hannah Coombes (vocals) and Olly Shelton (production) – put their unique stamp on last year with a seemingly neverending stream of singles that blended the beats and bass of club culture with songwriting nouse and an icy synthpop attitude.  

For our Juno Daily – In The Mix session they weave a clever concoction of their favourite sounds, from Bicep and Disclosure to their own productions.

In The Mix: PELA

Glasgow's enigmatic @ufaze celebrates the imminent launch of his Slow Process label by rolling out an ice cold electro session for Juno Daily's In The Mix series.    

The label - "Glasgow based, although I'm not overly bothered about pushing it as a “Glasgow label” though" - is set to kick off with a Ufaze 12” coming soon, with plans for expanding the roster and getting more on board to follow soon after.  This mix, he says, should serve as a bit of an introduction to the label and where it  will be coming from soundwise, and judging by its tracklisting – everything from Decal to Drexciya and Aphex Twin to dBridge – the nation’s record buyers are in for a treat.
