The Promise

Welcome to Tam Tam Land. No Bad Days returns after a spell in hibernation, looking to Seoul for NBD007: a debut record from the city’s exciting new talent, @closetyi.

Opening with ‘Honeymoon Junction’, we are greeted by the signature floaty yet punchy sound that typifies the mantra of No Bad Days; but around the halfway mark, an abrupt eeriness ambience washes over the track, letting you know this isn’t going to be necessarily the cheery cruise you expected. ‘Circle Dance’ is next on the A side which is more of a club-focused track in structure, though accented with Closet Yi. Birds chirp and a soft Korean intonation drifts in and out of the mix, luring us deeper into the depths of the island.

Hopping over to the B side we arrive at the climax of ‘Tam Tam Land’ with the thumping excess of ‘Basalt (玄武岩)’. Closet Yi flexes her skills in producing a peak time acid-tropische-prog-banger to stand up with the greats, filling the entire flip side. It brings to a close the whistlestop tour of her world, real and imagined. It also begins the first of many No Bad Days releases to come in 2020.

Following her debut EP in 2019, we are delighted to have her releasing again on Lobster Theremin. Garvey brings machine funk, acid alchemy and tripped out sounds to Lobster UNDR with the excellent​ ‘C​omplex Clarity’ E​P​.

‘Red Stars’ is an exploration through mind-warping cosmic funk and tangy acid lines, slipping into the pacey yet melancholic space-jam, ‘Mind Games’. Next, laid-back track, ‘sub.conscious’, is a slo-mo, dream-powered cruise through the vortex. On the B-side,​ ‘8808808.08’ ramps it up a notch - glitchy, omnimous, body music permeates the airwaves. Finally, chuggy ‘Complex Clarity’ rounds out the EP with Garvey’s signature sound - deeply mesmerising with a hint of nostalgia.

Time for a dose of much welcome dance floor positivity from the eclectic mind of NYC native, now Berlin based DJ @gabriellekwarteng! Born in Brooklyn and raised in the Bronx, Gabrielle's unique musical appreciations stem from a early diet of Ghanaian highlife and Nigerian Afrobeat cassettes, alongside the American disco, funk and jazz her Ghanaian parents had on heavy rotation at home. 

These days, through a wonderfully curated monthly residency on Brooklyn's @thelotradio, Gabrielle's distinctive curiosities can be heard ranging from West African disco to Brazilian funk, Middle Eastern electro and house-inspired ‘90s tracks from places like India, Japan, South Africa and South Korea. 

Here Gabrielle takes us on a 'semi-post quarantine' journey full of dance music nostalgia for the soul, finding solace in uptempo rhythms to spread positive vibes to those in need!
