This is a symphonic / synth interpretation I made from the cult classic "A Forest" by "The Cure". More info below.

My neighbour, a die-hard fan of anything new/cold/minimal wave and synthpop related, challenged me when he heard a remix I made.

The Challenge : Make a remix of his most favorite track ever ... "A forest" by "The Cure".

I was so nervous. In it's genre it's one of my favorites as well. A cult track actually. How will I start, how will I manage this ... It all crossed my mind.

So I started to sculpt and play with sound. But in the end, I missed something. The vocals ... 

I started with a lot of cutting, pasting, filtering of the original trakc. I managed to get the vocals quite isolated, but you could still hear the instruments getting mixed in. Now What ? 

After a lot of searching if perhaps an acapella existed and asking around, I found a solution. I rediscovered someone I met about a year ago on the net through some mutual friends and he could sing as if it was Robert Smith's (younger) brother. Fantastic !

Finally, the remixes are done. I made a copy for my neighbour and he was very impressed. He didn't like all of my versions (didn't expect it either), but most important : Mission Accomplished !

The album features studio material recorded at Schloss Nörvenich and Can Studio, Weilerswist with the Can line up of Holger Czukay on bass, Michael Karoli on guitars, Jaki Liebezeit on drums and Irmin Schmidt on keyboards, and on most tracks, vocals from Malcolm Mooney or Damo Suzuki.

Irmin Schmidt explains "Obviously the tapes weren't really lost, but were left in the cupboards of the studio archives for so long everybody just forgot about them. Everybody except Hildegard, who watches over Can and its work like the dragon over the gold of the Nibelungen and doesn't allow forgetting."
