Off the back of a stunning multi-genre release on Bristol-based label Out of Sorts, mod-r continues his foray into new musical styles in 2022. With an impressive backlog of releases on Out of Sorts, childsplay, Shubzin, CAROUSE, Belek Records, Jerry Horny, Hyperdome Records, Hang Tough, Angels Gun Club and his own imprint Meld Records, mod-r has developed outstanding technical abilities allowing him to produce tracks spanning electro, breaks, jungle and percussive styles. His EP on Gimme A Break Records broadens the Aberdeen-based producer’s repertoire further by exploring the recently revived UK Garage/Breaks crossover with Obatalla.
“Lord (Rave Mix)” offers a warehouse-ready anthem brimming with expertly chopped breakbeats. The track’s euphoric vocal lines and hardcore-inspired keys offer brief respite from the EP’s otherwise murky sound palette.

*PREMIERE* mod-r - Lord (Rave Mix)

A collaboration between poet and visual artist Manon Alla and producer Damian Concrete, Ecran Noir is the first release in the new series of digital EPs from Paris-area label Syrinx Music, following two limited-edition V/A vinyl releases. In the matter of 4 tracks, Ecran Noir melts both artists’ universes, as well as breakbeat & poetry.

Opening track “Elle Fera La Morte” immediately displays these aesthetics: breaks and poetry complement each other, Manon Alla’s words and voice amplifying Damian Concrete’s production’s expressive values. In return, Damian Concrete creates a striking atmosphere, on which Manon Alla’s extimate poetry finds new depths. Reaching uptempo, “Ecran Noir” goes even further: just as Damian Concrete’s breaks, Manon Alla’s voice is fragmented, recomposed, in an ideal fusion of both dimensions. “Coeur Sclérosé” keeps the intensity high, while final track “P.S.” shows us the darker side of this collaboration, with music and voice marching together.

Ecran Noir was built after Manon Alla & Damian Concrete met each other of Toulouse-based webradio Egregore in 2020. It is based on words that are to come on Manon Alla’s poetry book, Le Ciel a besoin d’espace: this EP was an opportunity for her to experiment with other dimensions of her poetry, and work on the sonic aspect of her words. A member of the Sons of Achab duo, Damian Concrete is used to expressive productions working at the crossroads of styles. As a whole, Ecran Noir resonates with Syrinx Music’s aesthetics: an open conception of electronic music, in the middle between the club & the laboratory.

Syrinx Music :

Syrinx Music is a Paris-area based microlabel, founded in 2020 by No3sis and both members of Haxo, around the idea of experimenting with new music formats and open aesthetics linked with digital arts. Syrinx's music aims to be diverse and located in the numerous crossroads between electronic and experimental music, visual and digital arts.

Syrinx seeks to melt styles and genres, blur lines between noise and breakbeat, electroacoustic and bass music, improvised music and techno, thinking about these styles in terms of spectrum, rather than frontiers. Syrinx wants to open borders, play with shades and promote new talents; its aim is exploratory music, that starts with shared references to progress towards the unknown, that plays with hybridation, accident, unforeseen music events. Syrinx was born with the experiences of its co-founders, and wishes to create an open canvas to host the experiences of other artists and listeners.

Syrinx is anchored in such inspirations: noise, cognitive science, accidents in creation & music, sound studies, pop culture, chaos theory, experience and experimentation, no wave, (a)tonal music, networks and graphs, surveillance society, algorithms & filter bubbles.

Syrinx Music is a weird bird, an invitation to surprise and an ode to divergence.

Influenced by GTA games, the crazy technical instrumentation and chord patterns of 70s Midwest emo, MNLTH and beautiful Aphex ambience...the music holds its own whether at home
braindancing, in a virtual world of hedonism, or in the sweatiest nightclubs. 

As a relative newbie to the industry's customs of sharing music with others, we can be sure that Dan isn't short of gems to uncover! Having built up his production craft in his now Clapton-based home studio, whilst also starting to DJ more via a monthly Threads Radio show and Loose Lips residency, the future looks bright, bewildering and bonkers.

Jej delikatne, melodyjne i atmosferyczne sety rozciągające się po pełnym spektrum styli, tempa oraz energii dotarły już do publiki w całym kraju.
