Meet the Artist: Pablo Bronstein

Jupiter Artland is a unique award-winning sculpture collection 12 miles west of Edinburgh, and a charity committed to nurturing the work of contemporary artists and commissioning site-specific work.

In 1999 art collectors Robert and Nicky Wilson bought Bonnington House, a Jacobean manor set in a 100-acre estate near Edinburgh, to live with their family. Nicky, a sculptor herself, had long dreamed of creating her own sculpture park, and the gardens, fields and woodlands of the estate seemed like the perfect setting for a sculpture park; some years later, Jupiter Artland opened to the public.

Jupiter Artland blends art, learning and nature to showcase the very best in established and emerging talent in contemporary art in a unique setting. In 2015 the organisation expanded by opening the newly constructed ballroom to create a counterpoint to the natural outdoor landscape. The first large-scale UK presentation of American artist Tara Donovan’s work Untitled (Plastic Cups) was installed in this space as part of an all-female summer programme.

The organisation also launched an annual programme to support emerging artists in the production of temporary outdoor works, with Lauren Gault as the first recipient; it hosted its first writer-in-residence, Marjorie Lotfi Gill, and launched the Room to Grow initiative to convert existing work buildings and sheds into learning spaces. In 2015 over 10,000 school children and participants took part in Jupiter Artland's learning programmes.

The park is home to 30 permanent works by eminent architect Charles Jencks, and artists Nathan Coley, Anthony Gormley, Anish Kapoor, Jim Lambie, Cornelia Parker and Marc Quinn. All the sculptures were created especially for Jupiter in response to the landscape.
