'Coming from the informal settlements of Kiwalani, Dar es Salaam Mario Swagga and DJ Silila's music captures the restless energy of young people in this growing metropolis. Mario Swagga and DJ Silila started performing at street parties in Kiwalani in 2009. By 2010 they were performing across Dar es Salaam. Mario received his name from crowds in Dar es Salaam because on stage he possessed some of the same confidence, attitude and swagger as Mario Balloteli. As their reputation grew they began to perform at events organized by Clouds FM and Mario was in 2016 crowned the number one Singeli singer in Dar es Salaam at Fiesta Singeri Michano. Mario's name has gone on to spread across the city and is now ready to travel even further afield.

This set was recorded in the on room living space with also doubles as DJ Silila's studio. DJ Silila has a truly distinctive and original sound which combines an Afro-Punk aesthetic, with driving drums and sample snippets. This set is a rare opportunity to hear Singeli as it is created at parties in Dar es Salaam's informal settlements.The frantic sound of Singeli is perhaps closest to early jungle but has a uniquely African aesthetic.'

As we edge nearer to our 100th mix, we seek to Berlin for textural techno melodies from dutch producer and DJ Konduku aka Ruben Üvez. Having graced some of our favorite labels like Donato Dozzy's Spazio Disponibile, Nous'Klaer, Delsin, Midgar and more, Üvez has become a maestro in layering UK techno stylings with a European flavour, finding that perfect balance between space and drums. 
His wisdom in also finding tracks of this style have become an integral part of his DJ sets being incorporated beautifully to the point of losing yourself even in the more relentless parts. A journey to say the least that very few can put you on, displaying Üvez's approach that could be comparable to that of modern greats like Batu and Donato Dozzy. And that is what Konduku has done here on Phonica 99. Recorded live from a Midgar party in Berlin recently that transports you to that time and moment so alluringly, we have a chat to Üvez more about the concept and where his head was at during this set.

The 2022 Edition was a special one for me, full of mixed feelings and not really in my best mental state. As soon as I was up there and got in the groove I looked up and saw all the smiles and for a moment I forgot all the bad stuff and went for the ride.
So this is my little gift to you all.

Immense thanks for all your kind words received during the festival. Before and after my set. I live for moments like this and to celebrate music in such environments with the best crowds possible.
Small, simple, good music, good people. Thats all I need.

Also thanks for continually supporting Parallel Festival. I have big plans for the future which I hope to make possible.

Pianeti Sintetici ('synthetic planets' in Italian) is a new conceptual project by Davide Perrone (Primal Code) that draws inspiration from the factories of Magrathea, a planet in Douglas Adams' classic space opera The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, where artificial planets are manufactured on commission.

“This concept has always fascinated me, and I chose the name to frame a hypothetical future of synthetic worlds, told with sound,' Davide says. 'I like to imagine the howls of creatures inhabiting solar systems outside our own. Rarefied atmospheres, alien sequences, and unfamiliar tonal scales. So, I see Pianeti Sintetici as an open-ended design research project where I can explore these inspirations.”

Pianeti Sintetici already has three stand out releases on the legendary Hypnus records and has played a string of mind bending shows, including this mix, which is a live set from the 2023 edition of Positive Education. Tune in for high fidelity alien psychadelia teased over hypnotizing interstellar grooves 👽👾🛸

Artist, radio host and promoter, Swiss-born London-based TSUNIMAN has gracefully imprinted the scene with their spellbinding trance, spacey techno, and progressive psy delights.
A moodier soundtrack for when the lights go low, TSUNIMAN's sound alchemy blends dark hypnotic elements with bright vibrations, creating otherworldly soundscapes that captivate the senses. For the past three years, they have been a resident at Klub Verboten, an alternative play party hosted in London and Berlin. After an unforgettable b2b set at Field Maneuvers festival in the Summer of 2023, they started running their own party with Miro SundayMusiq - Saturday Club* - an intimate club night centred around the notion of community and supporting grassroots venues. At East London’s Netil Radio, TSUNIMAN learnt to hone their craft, inviting up-and-coming DJs to guest on their monthly show, Плазма (PLASMA). Their eclectic selections — often spanning throbbing hypnotic techno and 90s psychedelic trance — have earned them guest shows on numerous local and international radios, such as Rinse FM, Balamii, Noods, Radio80k, and Radio DY10. Patrick Gräser, better known as Answer Code Request, has carved out a distinctive niche in the techno landscape with his hybrid musical style. His innovative approach, characterized by a fusion of pad-driven harmonies, intricate breaks, and an industrial tone, has set him apart since his emergence on the esteemed Ostgut Ton label in 2012. This breakthrough led to a prestigious residency at Berghain, further cementing his influence in the scene. EPM Podcast 129 comes from Detroit electro-techno experimentalists, Ectomorph. Now officially comprised of BMG & Erika they have continued to furrow their own idiosyncratic path through the contemporary electronic landscape. It’s this uncompromising view that now comes into focus with their kaleidoscopic mix. From the pulsating experimentalism of Jed James and r2π, to the tweaked electro of Techmarine Bottom Feeders and Datawave, nuanced techno of Forest Drive West and Mike Parker to the tough industrialism of Rhys Fulber and SHXCXCHCXSH they take us on a pilgrimage to all four pillars of the Techno anti-rule book. With their live shows pushing an improvisational and organic format, this DJ mix sees them tackle the dancefloor with a more direct, pressure building intensity.
