This is a song I wrote back between 2009-2011. I chose Lauryn Hill's "Ex-Factor" instrumental for my choice because I didn't know how to produce/ make beats at that time period. It fit perfect for the theme I wanted of the song. I was living in Memphis, TN on February 5th, 2008 and there was a severe storm system, and it's something about rainy days that gets my creative process going, plus there were things I had been going through at the time the reason for this song being written. So I added a thunderstorm clip in the background along with excerpts from a news channel that covered the severe weather that day in Memphis. My intentions is to have the listener kinda feel how the mood/day was for me at that time. I also created the artwork for this song, using Lauryn Hill on the cover to pay homage to her beautiful song. Enjoy, share, RT.

Ali Bomaye

Living in one of the poorest cities in the country, you can guarantee to come across back stabbers, loss of friends, phony relationships, depression, and a desire to make it out. These are all the things that artist Jus Larent battled with since childhood. With his father being enlisted in the army, Jus ended up born in a military hospital down in Fort Sill, Oklahoma, then moving to Memphis, overseas to Germany, then finally settling in Milwaukee, WI. Changing sceneries so much meant a lot of loss of friendships, having to adapt to new places, and the only way he found to escape the reality of not being so settle was music. At a young age Jus Larent would record music videos on his VCR, rewrite the lyrics, and then recite them exactly how the artist would perform. When it came time for him to write his own lyrics though, he found himself mimicking a lifestyle that was completely different from his, writing about fancy cars, money & material things. The wrong crowd encouraged him to go that route, saying it was the only way to get heard, but it just didn't fit. So he took a hiatus from writing raps, and dove headfirst into poetry, realizing that he could take the deep thoughts from his mind, and put them to paper in a rhythm. Eventually he would get back to writing raps, forming his own flow through multiple studio sessions, and creating lyrical wordplay that told a story about him, and what he went through in his life. He knew most people wouldn't want to really hear reality rap all the time, so he took the time to study metaphors, and switched from time to time to display raw, lyrical talent over trap style beats, while at the same time not straying away from who he really was.
