So many things have happened in the last years, months, weeks, days, that we just cannot process it all. We shut down. We become cynical, apathetic. We pretend. We cover it all with dust and bad jokes. 

The year ends the way it started. With the sour-sweet taste of the end of the world in our lips. Bad days, sad days, mad days. And the annoying feeling of having lived it all a year ago makes it more weary. We’re wearing second-hand anxieties from 2020. 

Recently I wanted to connect with those I find further than ever, so I asked people around me to tell me how they feel - or how they don’t. I put together pieces of them in a mix with which I wanted to highlight that we feel the same pain. And it's nice to remember that sometimes.

It is autumn 2022, Alice and Stefan, also known under the artist names Jan Loup and Maquis Son Sítsom, went from Toulouse on a  tour of Europe. We were lucky and ran into them along the way. We spent some nice time together in Prague and Brno and recorded next part to Transcendanz series. Then the earth collapsed after them, but they promised that they would return one day. We will wait with hope.

Jan Loup’s territories of exploration are split in several directions. Sometimes on her show Mana-Machine (LYL Radio) and with her collective “Aïra”, she visits ambient sounds, soothing pads and organic glitches, depicting fantasy mental landscapes, at the crossroads of dreams and consciousness. Sometimes in her own music production and during more festive times, she seeks to transcend emotion through more intense rhythmic mixtures, filled with saturated drums and its distortions. She conceive her dj-set like rituals, associating track by image and texture affinity, always in this desir of expressing or liberating the emotions as well by listening as through dancing. In her univers the party time is lived as ceremony attempt, a rite to escapde from capitalism and the prison of the ego, to find back the sens of self and the connexion to others, rediscover our wildeness, with or without success.

Maquis Son Sistèm is a musical project and alias of Stefan Dubs that expresses itself through the records of the eponymous label, a show on LYL radio ‘Le Son du Maquis’, and his live dub project which consists of live re-interpretations of his songs using the multipist as instrument but also sound effects and dub sirens.. using both the traditional techniques of the studio dub version and those of the mix session.

TRANSCENDANZ 6 w/ Jan Loup & Maquis Son Sistèm

On the last two weekends of January 2023 we exchanged some mutual affection with Vitamin, our favorite music pit and the best crew from Brno. We decided to immortalise the two long nights with a few small doses of Vitamin A extracts – five recordings from events in Prague and Brno. 

First recording belongs to Skalm, who opened Planeta Za's floor on January 20.

Off The Record this month takes a dive into the mind of Chicago artist and musician Beau Wanzer. 
Wanzer is commonly known for records on Ron Morelli's L.I.E.S. imprint as well as working with labels like Brew, L.A. Club Resource, iDEAL, Natural Sciences, and Nation. His in touch ear with industrial, electro and experimental music has seen him work alongside the likes Traxx and Steve Summers as the excellent Mutant Beat Dance, Dan Jugle as the head banging Juzer and more recently De-Bons-en-Pierre with Maoupa Mazzocchetti. 
For this mix Wanzer goes no holds bared into the world of tape culture with noisey and hissing electro and synth tunes as well as some chuggy industrial moments. We had a quick chat with Beau about the mix and what he has coming up!

Our mix series is coming back at full force after more than a year of radio silence with Lolo Batten delivering a slow–burning mix that dusts off hidden gems in her collection. 

Hailing from Paris, Lolo is an emerging DJ, promoter and artist at the helm of traverse, an Amsterdam–based radio series and music label pushing a hypnotising collage of elastic bass and pulsating rhythms.
