We're doing things a bit differently this week and announcing our Postcard Club single on a Tuesday. Yesterday our good friends Joanna Gruesome announced their debut album which is due for release on Fortuna Pop and Slumberland (!!!) in the US. It was a big day for them which they totally deserved and we thought two JoGru related announcements in one day might be a bit much for some people. Alanna McArdle is Joanna Gruesome's most recent member and as well as singing vocals for them, she also produces solo work under the Ides moniker.

Her first EP released on Reeks of Effort received plaudits from all round; and rightly so. Alanna seemed to effortlessly document tales of heartbreak weaved with despair. As a listener, hearing the EP in full is almost a therapeutic experience. The same can be said of her postcard single 'Prisms' - with an added fidelity that wasn't present on her earlier recordings, Alanna's softly sung lyrics become even more effecting. This is no truer than when she sings the haunting line "it was over before it began".

Africa is a hub for some of the most out there Hip-Hop and Sibot has been a huge staple in the scene. From from doing projects with Ninja (Die Antwoord) to Spoek mathabo and others to winning the SA Battle Championships in 2002 he's done it all. My true loves are alternative & gothic, and house & trance (mainly from the 90's and early 2000's).

Twenty years as a DJ playing other people's tracks, while having music in my soul and dreams in my head (with no formal musical training), was like skiing uphill on a mountain of ash 8 days a week and never going anywhere.

I write my own lyrics (with a mostly darker side), and I dabble in Fruity Loops to create personas, sounds, riffs, and hooks that evoke a specific feeling I'm trying to find in the music.

Finally, I use Suno AI to put it all together, and after many, many tweaks, I get the sound I'm looking for. It would have been (and has been until a few months ago) impossible for me to express myself in the sheer love of music without the final touch of AI giving my inner dreamer the chance to fly high and free.

I do not sell or restrict my music; I make it, post it, and let the chips fall where they may.
