I find it droll and barbaric to begin with a sort of, i don't know, backbeat, i suppose you could call it, and then add elements from there. 

Rather, I begin with a clear image, kind of like a photogram or a pose card, and let the song compost itslef from that. 

What follows is a rough narrative sketch of the song, which I naturally began with when composting this song.

I created this song around January 2010. The words were co-written with a person i met online, who lived near the Tennesse/North Carolina border. I lost her contact info, so, sadly, I can't credit her here.

I thought it would be easy to write a country song, so I sent out a call on craigslist in late 2009, soliciting country lyrics. I got a few responses, but i could only find one song that looked promising, as it had some kind of coherent concept. I added words for the chorus and last verse. 

Basically, i proved, to myself, that I can turn words into songs, Elton John style. Maybe again? After all, it did turn out to be pretty easy to write country songs, though not necessarily that anyone wants to hear.

Memory Please Fail Me

Sometimes life grabs you by the grass, cranks your flank like a weed and tosses you into a pile with the others for later when it remembers to go inside and grab a garbage bag. You'll get thrown out, sure. But it's only a metaphor. Regardless, sometimes during times like these you step outside and are struck by an odd breeze that is abnormally cool for the clime where you reside. Hopefully, this song captures the beauty and hope of those moments, when what can you do besides pause, eyes closed, and breathe in that wind, knowing. All is fine.

The artist currently known as just a guy is on a recording hiatus, having had his sound-making materials and tone-generating condensed matter technology stolen, with guile, by a band of semi-domesticated foxes while rehearsing for a tour of cities on the south of Bolivia (in one of the two Americas, subscribe for big reveal!). 

In a world where there are no coincidences, these same wily foxes have a band called Quarter Inch Jack with a residency at Mangos in Cochabamba (as of Hexember, -1893). You be the judge.

Worry not, though, sports bra fans, because just a guy continues to create and edit music in his mind, phase-melding daily with the vibration known as Melpothalia. This music continues to, in this exact order, fester, percolate, distill, gesticulate, fill out, masturbate, mutate, fornicate and prognosticate in an always unreliable dance between the universal consciousness and the tiny pinch that is, after all, just a guy’s brain.
