Gent1e $oul keeps evolving his dancefloor meta with "Block Printing '', the latest EP on Fast Castle. This DLC consists of 5 stripped down, effective takes on UK Bass, Dubstep, Grime and Baile - excellent for outright late game domination. The vinyl comes in hand-crafted sleeves produced in an ancient woodblock printing method on a manually operated, pre-industrialisation printing press.

Sonically, Gent1e $oul further distills his style by fusing different sonic spheres and bass music styles across “Block Printing''s chapters: Profoundly effective 4-bar grime meets transparent electro breaks on “Heated Shot”, with it’s hi-tek sounds forcing early reactions from the floor. “Siege Ram” is a techno x steppers crossover that packs the punch to keep your opponents stuck in the dark ages forever. “Untitled” channels baile cues into a rigid, progressive club cut, while the B-Side offers a UK Techno meets dembow deepness with “Fortified Walls”. Rounding off the proceedings, Rolex3k makes here exec. producer debut with a feature on “Turtle Ship”, a deeper-than-deep dub stepper.

"Block Printing"’s cover, conceived by Fast Castle’s visual mastermind Jonas, depicts an emblematic circle monograph hinting to prehistoric scenes and ancient legends. Special care went into the production of the DIY-printed record sleeves: Individually crafted on an ancient 1820s mechanical press and printed in a block printing-like technique from a laser cut wood negative, each of the edition-of-200 vinyl copies is a one-of-a-kind artifact to worship and rinse repeatedly.

Abnormal is the sound of DJ JM ratcheting it up a notch, both in production-value and musical creativity. The title itself stands as a compact explainer of DJ JM’s constant sonic assignment – Abnormal consolidates years of JM’s work to keep club music weird and unexpected. Retaining the chunky percussion and quick-stepping rhythms he built his name on, the EP also contains intricate, cleverly designed sound-beds, and extends the menacing electro-techno swagger DJ JM began exploring on his previous No Days Off and Squash EPs.

Preferring synths over samples, Abnormal is filled with sudden bursts of psychedelic melody, off-kilter audio-manipulations and bubbling acid-trip basslines. The tracks also have a subtle but distinctly Lithuanian edge, drawing influence from the iterative, morphing patterns of the folk symbols and insignia carved into the remains of ancient settlements near Vilnius.

MSJY commences the dance, wrapping some deft breaks around a steamy reggaeton shell. Viiaan douses the loose dembow groove with a hypnagogic mood and chuggy bassline. Dåser maps out an itchy labyrinth of percussive electro that relentlessly mutates. Mossambi unfurls a futurist digi stepper brimming with excitable technoid energy. Octoptic indulges late 00’s dark
2-step but updated with remarkably modern sound design. Elpac and Mulholland combine to burn twisted breaks within an all-consuming rave menace. Baitface provides us with a loving
throwback, an unreleased gem from 2012 fit with dub momentum and snappy snares for the headbangerz. Henzo flicks the hood up and gets nasty for a dialed-up skankstep wonder. Soreab opens his third eye with a haunted drumtastic half time chug. soltura sees us out with an icey wub finale of stirring synth-etic emotions amidst a melodic wonderland of sound.

The committee “Justice pour Sourour” and the Pacifique Records music platform is launching a series of compilations to raise awareness on the fight against police violence and collect funds to ensure justice for Sourour: beloved sister, mother, daughter, and friend, who died in a police station in Brussels on January 12, 2023. For this first volume we’re bringing together friends and allies: artists of the experimental and bass music scene, each presenting a track.   The fight we’re waging is relentless, we need to keep everyone’s attention so that the struggle doesn’t lose momentum, so that even more people feel concerned and join us, and so that similar violence can never happen again. We want to believe in a united, supportive and politicised music scene. As artists, musicians and cultural actors, and with your support, we can play a precious role in this fight.

After diversifying with the release of a couple of tapes over the last few years, BFDM’s little sis — Homemade Soundsystem — returns to what it knows what to do best: a two-track bass-heavy dancehall 7 inch. This one is courtesy of Parisian producer Krikor, who was already behind the outfit’s first release back in 2019. The well named Captivation Riddim starts off as a slow-but-rough compelling tune with haunting and trippy vocal samples creating an adequately driving mood. On the flip, Liberation Riddim is a percussive chopped-up party starter, ideal for changing gears with multiple BPM shifts and breaks throughout the track.

The inaugural compilation by Etherwerkz is packed with high-vibrational bass-heavy club music from friends and faves, setting the tone for the Etherwerkz genre-free sound and vision, from etherial experiments heard in the intro by Weightausend, peak time tech-uk funky by Xen Chron, hi-tek hood electro from Soular-Dj Phiene and User Delusion, through bass bangers from Toupaz and Lindenberg Support wrapping it up with 160 bpm tekkerz by Johnny Megabyte and Dj Balance.

CEE uses technology as a set of tools empowering creativity, critical thinking, research and independence for all its members. The aim is to create an environment that fosters collaboration in the real world and provides opportunities for shared exploration and learning enabling different groups of people and creators to drop work together effectively.

All releases, encompassing music, gadgets, events and audio essays, delve into the relationship between machines and nature—two elements that are part of an interconnected ecosystem symbolizing a bionical evolution in a world where technology reinterprets nature in an iterative effort to differentiate from it.
