Released this in 2013, uploading to SC just because.

Ok remember that thing about outside elements? So one night I was making the house shake with a bass drone while the windows were wide open, the crickets were chirping at 120dB, and there was water running in the next room. A family of skunks was walking through the crunchy leaves outside. A few hours worth of Arp 2600 multitracking later, I had my textural washes. I love this track. Reminds me of Andy Stott meets Organic Noise’s (X-Dream’s) “Spastic Elastic” which was a mind melter a decade ago.

We got a new babysitter and she started playing Raffi. Milo loved it. This one is a bit of an odd duck because it’s pretty aggressive straight beat. But in the spirit of writing music my kid should hear, I needed to make something like what we’d listen to in the desert, or in a warehouse, at 4 am out of our minds, a la pfirter, slater, drumcell, you name it. And it worked, this passes his dancing in the car tests as well.

We were listening to Machinedrum’s Gunshotta Ave EP on repeat for about three weeks. The beep is sampled off this baby monitor we have that kept running out of batteries as I’d stay up at night and oddly had a nice sync with the track. There’s a shhhhhh sound from this battery-operated “baby shusher” we’d have to leave in his crib to get him to chill out. AThere’s also an owl that was hooting outside our window who made it in. I mix on these Senn HD600s, open-ear, and hearing background noises really was vital to the production process. What I found was that the original mix of the track was just all synthesized and it was this wash of outside elements that made it cohesive. We’ll return to that in a later track.

just got a new filter module and am testing out sequencing as such: 
- modcan step seq running a stepper into the Fc @ 1 volt/octave, 1/8th notes 
- 4 independent gates turning modes on the Schippmann on and off 
- manually turning filter cutoff knob 
- tiny env on the Fc to give it some dynamic range via Cwejman

Taking the Tiptop Audio Z8000 Matrix Sequencer for a spin. Just a bit of noodling to show what's possible with such a small amount of gear.

Here's the path:

Z8000 driving triggers on BD808 and HATS808 as well as CV and Gates on the VC303 (via CV out triggering 100M envelopes).
