Western separatist psychological thought and practice has been criticized for promoting disconnection from nature by treating the natural world as a separate object for scientific or economic exploitation. 

Addressing this collective shadow requires self-reflection, recognizing these hidden elements, and engaging in "indigenous shadow work" to foster awareness, social responsibility, and a conscious effort to avoid repeating historical horrors to escape the maze—it's often hard for individuals, communities, and countries to realize that they are the monster in their story.
