It's been an incredible 2016 on SoundCloud, so I've put together a playlist of some of my very favorite pieces of music since I have been here as a compilation for New Year's Eve and New Years. It has been a pure pleasure to play and record with the super talented Justin Valente @justin-valente. Justin lives and breathes guitar and has such a deep and wonderful understanding of blues, blues history, and its evolution and influence in rock. And Justin uses that to turn out some of the consistently baddest guitar playing on SoundCloud. Capital B. Almost every day. So impressive.

When I found him here on SC I was instantly attracted to both his sound and conception. Somewhere that I would love to be if I played the electric guitar. A ton of electricity in his playing, raw energy, and a great understanding of navigating through the changes. If you haven't already, click to go to Justin's SC gallery and follow him. He is a serious student, and makes everything we do sound better.

Here's a collection of about 10 tunes we have recorded together....some classic tunes as well as originals. Very proud of these recordings.

What fun pulling this together with three serious musicians.  You probably know Joe Bongiovanni and Justin Valente's awesome blues oriented guitars, and they stretch out here on this funk / soul / fusion groove.  Burning it up they are.  And joining us on Alto Sax is recording artist Matt Criscuolo.  Look for him at mattcriscuolo.com.  These guys just play their ass off here.  Started with an internet fusion loop, I added many keyboard lines to funk it up to the max, and we added these pros.  Joe takes the opening solos for the first four minutes, Justin follows, and we finish with all the guys trading off.  So much energy.  Positive energy here.  Put this on and relax. Bringing a soulful sound to SoundCloud with this one.  Lifetime recording artist, soul vocalist, saxophone and harmonica player Johnny Pugh sits in with blues guitarist extraordinaire Justin Valente and me on an emotional Ray Charles type slow jam.  What a wonderful surprise to hear Johnny's beautiful harp lines, which fit perfectly with Justin's raw electric blues energy. Latin Dancer - with Justin Valente / guitar

Always exciting for me to have an opportunity to perform and record with Norway's brilliant fusion guitarist, composer and recording engineer Ronny Heimdal https://soundcloud.com/ronny-heimdal .  I started working on this tune late this summer when one of other favorite guitarists Justin Valente https://soundcloud.com/justin-valente sent me a funk track to collaborate on.  6 weeks went by and I was waiting for Justin to add his solos to it.  But I forgot the original track had come from Justin and then asked Ronny to do his thing with the opening and solos, and posted, without giving credit to Justin for setting the groove - or even the original idea.  SO SORRY JUSTIN!  Memory lapse!

With the new tune, Ronnie kicks it into high gear immediately on this funk fusion jam, and just doesn't let up.  Not only is he bringing his A game to make this come alive, but he's also brought his knowledge and ear to create the right sound and balance.  If you are fan of superb guitar, of jazz rock fusion, and of modal pieces, this one's for you   -  Go Ahead Ronny...named after a classic tune Miles Davis did on Big Fun, with John McLaughlin stretching it out over a modal groove....  Perhaps I should rename it So Sorry Justin:)

Featuring super-trumpeter Chuck Weirich and the Aleck Rand Group,  This original tune may sound like a waltz, but it is actually in 5/4 time.  Chuck is a trumpet melodist with a pure sound, playing accessible, beautifully shaped ideas and harmonies.   I composed it, nevertheless he makes it his own.

in the early 90's  I played with different Reggae Bands . 
At one of many shows a Lady ( which became my biggest fan ) gave me some lyrics telling me , she saw a few shows and were inspired to write down a few words - could be maybe used for a song .
She always like to stay anonimous and I promise her to do so . 
In 1994 I recorded a demo with sequenzer - but I decided to record it again and did this in 1998 .Analogue recording with Yamaha MT 8 X , I had no drumsticks so I used the Jazz Brush instead . Hope you enjoy ! Thank you for the love , support and stopping by - one love to you :)

Haven't been playing or posting much lately, but reposting this because I played with the mix today for fun.

Named because it felt like eternity for me to finish this track because my DAW kept crashing :) This is a little blues jam that started as one thing and ended up as another. It is me on guitars and bass, Jamie on keyboards, and drum loops from Beta Monkey.

Thanks to Jamie as always for being so flexible and easy to work with. He adds a lot to this track and sounds great. We hope you enjoy :)

Eternity Blues (featuring Jamie Rhind)

So excited to be releasing our latest original The Journey, with Dan van den Berg on guitar.  This one is extra special to me, not only because it again includes Dan's magical acoustic guitar playing on it, but also because a few weeks ago, while working on his parts for this tune, Dan decided to recreate the entire tune in a flamenco style using three guitar parts, and dedicated the music to me.  It was a huge surprise to me, and one that demonstrates the deep understanding Dan has for music,  his fondness for the passion of music and also for the friendship that we both share.  For our version here, Dan is once again performing on his gorgeous Joan Cashimira acoustic guitar. Some wonderful things happen when great friends get together.  Pinner, Stringburner and I got together here to present a downtempo grooving bluesy original, Mr Slinky.  So much can happen with the right players, and this one jelled from the start.  Mirko's one of the deepest electric bass players here on SoundCloud, growing up in Essen, Germany, and bringing that groove, that funk, and that perfect rhythm to everything that he touches.  Everything.  We've done so many thing here together, and it goes without saying that this bass line is the joint.  Taking the lead here is Mount Laurel, New Jersey's Stephan Lipinski.  Another monster, Stephan's got his Robbin Ford sensibility going, with that infectious wah playing and always tasty blues sensibility.  Together, these guys just kill this one, proving such a wonderful cross continent musicality - exactly what SoundCloud is about.  I've had so much fun mixing down these beautiful lines, finding the right balance, and getting this ready for prime time.  Thanks guys.

Since last December my workplace had got into a mess due to stupid senior management. Stress built up, which kept me away from composing a new song, though I had several gigs and vented my frustration.
Recently things seem to go better and I began to work on a new song, when Jamie Rhind https://soundcloud.com/jamie-rhind kindly proposed collaboration. I’m very glad to have such a superb keyboard player as Jamie play solo on my track! You can hear his funky synth solo in the middle part of this song.

Funk Yeah!

Calaminus is back with a super funky collaboration, Catch the Drift.   Such a fine composition from the SC World Funkmaster, Jorg Calaminus.  He's done so much here and then listen to his fantastic piano/synth solo.  Over the course of 5 minutes, Jorg takes us from funk to some Hawaiian Island groove, back to the funk, to fusion, to 70's rock, and then back to the funk.  Something like that.  Maybe more.  Jorg's for years been one of the Cloud's finest creators, merging Funk, World, Fusion and Jazz.  With Jorg, rhythm and syncopation drive his music.  And taste.  There's always a surprise around the turns, and lots of layers.  Heavy music and a pleasure to be releasing this together. So great to have him back with his wonderful grooves.

This is a cover of the old blues tune - Next Time You See Me, covered by many including my beloved Grateful Dead :)  Jamie is on keys, and me on guitars. I wrote this song about a holiday in the summer of '83, the words really sum up the memories, my kid sister had this beloved ball that she took everywhere with her, and then good old Billy Ray here lost it to the tide. Not sure she's actually forgiven me yet lol. Greetings to all, many thanks indeed to everyone supporting us, much appreciated as always! This track is the end track from our new album "Insomniacs Dreams", which will be available online soon.

Lost At Sea

I realize it has been quite a while since i last posted.
Since my recent bereavement, I've been remembering, re-balancing, and finding it much more difficult than i could ever have imagined. Paige was the Love of my life, my best friend, and such a character!  :-D
 
But, all things considered, Life is Good! The death of ones beloved, not so much. 
However, the love of friends and family continues to make all the difference as i am on my own again for the first time in 35 years.

So, it gives me great pleasure to release my first New Piano Improvisation since my darling Wife, Paige, who was also my Muse, and Best Friend, passed away in my arms so suddenly on the first day of May in 2018).   

Now, all i can do is continue to Share my Love, my Music ... and to Remember and Cherish the Fullness of All we inJOYed during the many years we adventured together.  <3 

In-deed, i pledge to continue Creating and Sharing the humble musical gifts i have been blessed with, in remembrance of the amazing love we shared. 

Rest in Peace, and continue to Be yourSelf wherever you may Be, 'My love, my fair one.'

I've been playing guitar with varying degrees of devotion for about 30 years. I love to play and record every chance I get and have really enjoyed my time on SC so far.  My musical influences are guitar greats such as Hendrix, SRV, Jerry Garcia, Jimmy Page, Duane Allman, Robben Ford, Mike Bloomfield, Warren Haynes and Derek Trucks. I love listening to other people's music and drawing inspiration from their talents.  Most of all I appreciate all of the support from the community here and look forward to spending a lot more time. :)
