After a string of highly regarded modern balearic eps in the last two years Subatomic boss Steve Miller aka Afterlife punches back in with the anticipated “Baywatch” EP looking forward to brighter days ahead. True to the trademark mind-clearing touch he’s come to be known for Steve Miller lands a new vividly hued quartet of sun-baked groovers, engineered to symbiotically uplift and soothe both the body and soul. This couldn’t be more needed today.

Fresh coastal air blows across the opening track, “Fly”, and we’re invited to take off to the sound of exotic string movements, as subtly arranged portamentos and prismatic synths entangle in one sensual dance. Bringing some further muscular heft to the bass range, title-cut “Baywatch” ignites a dancefloor-friendly fire of playful acid synth and slo-scudding pads on a retro tip. The result is as funkily efficient as it invites to deep-dive in Afterlife’s intricate sound design and lavish interplays on textures and envelopes. 

Back to a quieter, more serene kind of vibe, “The Bridge” could be called a sonic haiku; making tapping drums, verbed-out Duduk solos and weightless chimes pour gently as in a zen garden’s body of water. Unruffled jazzy-house exercise in style and a true ode to the impermanence of things. 
“Lost Tribes” wraps it all up on an equally easy, yet more adventurous note with it’s ballet of jazzy solos, washed-out pads, chimes and subtle chords making their way to the surface from deep down in the most vivid of dreamscapes. Time for sunshine.

Italian trio Re-Tide get their disco-loving mitts on Todd Terry’s Keep On Jumping. The result? An essential reworking of one of the greatest house records ever made. 

Featuring live additional vocals, life-affirming keys and live instrumentation galore, Re-Tide’s disco remix is a joyous ode to both classic 70s disco and Terry’s masterful original, with Wash and Brown’s vocals sounding more glorious than ever before.  

For music lovers with even a passing interest in the origins of house as we know it today, neither Todd Terry nor his seminal record Keep On Jumping should need much introduction. Keep On Jumpin’ was Todd’s first release on Mercury Records and featured a vocal workout from super-divas Martha Wash and Jocelyn Brown, brought together for the very first time. The rest is history: the song became a top 10 UK crossover pop hit, worldwide smash and is still dropped on club dancefloors around the world to this day. 

When a track is still being remixed more than 20 years after its original release, it’s a sure bet that it’s made a sizeable impact on the scene. Often it’s all too easy to do a quick, cheap remix of a timeless classic: something that does no favours to either the original record or the artists involved. In Re-Tide’s case however, you can put any such fears to bed.

Formed almost a decade ago in 2009, Re-Tide are Italian producers and DJs Patrizio Mattei, Danny Omich and Andrea Prezioso. Melding their love of the underground music scene of the 70’s and 80’s the trio infuses elements of disco, funk, and soul with a definitively modern house mantra that has resulted in them establishing themselves as one of the top house, nu-disco, and indie dance artists in the world. 

In their native Italy, Re-Tide are approaching household name status. Patrizio and Danny are presenters and DJs on m2o based in Rome with 1.5 million listeners daily and host WAVES every Saturday at 7PM, and Andrea is a presenter, DJ, and programmer for Radio Capital with 1.7 million daily listeners. The trio, under Re-Tide, also host, produce, and DJ one of the most popular on air shows on Radio Capital “Capital Party Nu-Disco” every Saturday night at 11PM where they showcase a unique blend of disco, funk, Philly soul, and rare groove of the 70's all the way to upfront nu-disco and house.

In other words, thee guys know what they’re doing; a fact that becomes only too clear on experiencing their magnificent reimagining of Keep On Jumping.

Up next on the label is a split EP which is perfectly apt for the last day of winter, a sun kissed affair offering a warmth and insight into the season which lies around the corner.
