This is a song me and Brittney (aka @pisgah-official) wrote together. I had the opening riff and a rough song structure, as well as a vague notion that it should be about that time in your life when you're desperate to get out into the world and make your mark. Brittney came up with these amazing lyrics and it turned into this!

Daydreams And Algorithms

Demo 12 of songs I wrote in my songwriting group. The prompt for this song was to write a recipe in song form. This was a fun/silly write….but also, it’s pretty accurate, so if you want to make some delicious soup just follow along (who needs measurements…)!

The Soup I Was Planning to Make for Dinner

Tomato paste

We start with the onions 
The garlic and the ginger					
We think of the feast 
We are having for dinner

Then we add the vegetables
Vegetables, it’s time
I like zucchini and potatoes but use what you have

Garlic powder, cayenne pepper

The Soup I Was Planning to Make for Dinner (demo)

A song that came out of an atrocious songwriting challenge to write a tune with less than 20 words. So, not my usual wordy rhyme galore style (and makes me cringe a bit still) but a lot of repeating and stretching words out as long as possible, so I hope the extra harmonies somewhat offset the lack of substance... very rough mix at this stage as well because I was in a rush, so the levels and panning are probably a bit dodgy.

We spoke about his journey from teen heartthrob with the Walker Brothers, to the creator of some of the most challenging music in the history of pop. We discuss the big band, crooner tradition that Walker emerged from, the radical break in his work with 1978's Nite Flights and the political pessimism of his later records. During Jeremy Corbyn’s time as Labour leader, much attention was part to the economic vision that the party developed for the United Kingdom, but less to his personal interest in the arts, and how that shaped both Labour’s cultural policy, and their programme as a whole. In this interview, Juliet talks to Jeremy about his interest in the socialist cultures that formed around the 20th century Labour Party and the Popular United government in Chile, the arts policies the party developed under his leadership, the concept of cultural democracy and his determination to unlock the creative potential of the UK’s young people, #Grime4Corbyn and Culture for Labour in the 2017 and 2019 election campaigns, what the reaction to his fondness for James Joyce’s Ulysses says about the British media, how socially engaged artists might react to the 2019 election defeat and the job losses amidst the Covid-19 pandemic, and plenty more.
