remember ‘fool4u’? this track takes you through all of that and more, retrospectively. here i was, 3 years later, STILL drenched with the tortured artist trope juice, and i was angry. i was angry at all of it failing, i was angry at myself, i was angry of the love i failed to recognize until it was too late; classic cliché. 

this track DOES, in fact, follow through a story from start to finish.

my second relationship’s undoing was again, my own doing. do you see the pattern? i conditioned myself this way to survive- to selfishly create “music”. and i was terribly good at breaking things apart, but i lacked resistance and never learned how to steadily let go. ‘You were sitting there, melting on the table with your friend.’, is quite literally how my physical interaction began with this ex. 

i meticulously pay homage to “fool4u” with, ‘and like i said before, i’d kiss you but…’

I felt compelled to retrospectively revisit a past timeline where this track ruled over me emotionally, and conjure a sonically reimagined version of [it]. one of my first tracks ever written and recorded at 17 years of age. a steady flow of infantile lyricism provides a visualization of what the first signs of depression were for me. leading myself astray from my 7 year relationship, i formed a promiscuous alliance with separation anxiety, venomous self-loathing, and dim-lit faith for my survival. i thought my break-up was killing me. it was. and it was up to me to take the stride head on.

‘I see a ghost on top of my head and it fails to fade away.’ & ‘I see the blue, I catch the blue…’, are both imaginative indicators of my then prolonged sadness.

fortunately for me, ‘You gotta figure it out, ‘cause no one else will.’, is the bullseye statement of the track; to have dim-lit faith of my survival meant i was still intact.

i wrote this when i was 17, semi-complacent with the emotional turmoil of young, dumb love. i didn’t write coherent lyrics and meanings easy for the listener to grasp, ex. pre-chorus, ‘Bought a few apple cider, father talk, and i’m a failure.’ what did this mean to me? it didn’t matter! this felt right to me, as long as my chorus was, ‘And how am I supposed to feel?’, because i’m just a 17-year-old lost in the notion of existence. 

my naively-coursed mind did not know to implement a story within a production yet, so it mismatched tiny details from my teen driven dramas; i was responsible for plenty of the what was happening to me and i became attached to the ‘tortured artist’ trope.

written at my 18 years of age. this was primarily a draft that only had an intro, first verse, and first chorus. i was motivated by a close friend then to recreate and work on the completion of said track, and so i did exactly that. 

this track continues to explore my romanticism for the lonely and tortured artist trope. i had a turbulent break-up, in which consisted of endless waves of creativity. ‘You say nothing, and i deserve it.’, directly follows down my ambition to purposely solidify my role as the reason my then relationship wasn’t working. ‘Love someone, love someone now.’, was written to emphasize how much i craved human connection and physical touch after my relationship came to an end.
