The Candy-Man Can

My musical journey began at birth, when I would hear my dad playing some of his own Christian songs on acoustic/electric guitar. Skip ahead to age 7, I learned a good amount of music theory through piano, which I was forced to play by my parents. However, it wasn't until the age of 13 when I got an MP3 player and picked up a guitar, learning the basics from a group class, that the infinite world of music opened up to me. With the foundation of just a few guitar chords, I found I had a voice and melodies and lyrics that would come to me at the most random of times. A desire that could not be quenched, I found what time I could growing up as a homeschooler, taking college classes in high school, to write and play. A good amount of my skill was developed from playing in church bands. At 18 I recorded an EP, but with college, graduation, and a career job the music got away from me for a while. After a season of deep, dark depression and severe anxiety I finally surrendered to God and He opened my eyes. Everything lifted, and I can now see, with scars to sing about, that music is what I was made to do. Not just for myself, but for others, and ultimately for the Glory of God.
