BATTLES GRANT IN SOUTH AFRICA

With the boxing world firmly focused on the upcoming Pacquiao fight, there is an underlying heavyweight clash brewing half way around the world.

Former championship contenders Michael Grant and Francois “The White Buffalo”
Botha come face to face in Botha’s backyard of sunny South Africa.

“URBAN WAR,” featuring Botha vs Grant for the heavyweight championship of the world, and three other world championship fights will be broadcast live on pay-per-view in the United States and Canada on Saturday, November 19 at 2:00 PM ET/11:00 AM PT by MultiVision Media, Inc., in association with Showpony Promotions.

The fight will be beamed to North America from Montecasino in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Botha (48-5-3, 29 KO’s) and Grant (47-4-3, 35 KO’s) have been on a collision course for some time now with Botha stating publically that the heavyweight division deserves better.

“Gaining the #1 ranked African heavyweight position allows me to be a WBC top 10
opportunity and once again prove I am an exciting heavyweight,” stated Botha.

“Michael Grant needs to talk to Briggs and get some advice and how to handle my right hand because if he doesn’t, its going to be a short night for a tall man.”
“Evander Holyfield has had a firm financial offer from my promoters at SHOWPONY
PROMOTIONS and he has found any excuse not to fight me again.” The USA and the
rest of the world is in for a real ‘African’ treat come fight night. Michael Buffer is
announcing and will be going on Safari post fight night.”

Boxing globally might rely on these two giants to mix it up and spice up the heavyweight division again . They say the African buffalo is very territorial...but then again so is the American Bison!

A Climate of Change Concert for East Africa

A benefit concert for the victims of East Africa's famine is to be held in Durban as part of the UN's Climate Change Conference, COP17. The event A Climate of Change by Artists Project Earth (APE) will see South African musician Johnny Clegg with Jimmy Dludlu, Jika Nelanga, Amaryoni and special guests. 

Grammy award winner and APE founder, Kenny Young says “The timing and setting in Durban is crucial. Many Africans are dying and millions more are facing starvation, yet the crisis is not gaining nearly enough international attention. We want to do something about that.”

Proceeds from the concert planned for December 4th will contribute to emergency relief and longer-term rehabilitation for those suffering from the severe famine in the Horn of Africa.

APE Development Director Lorna Howarth says, “The situation in the Horn of Africa is complex: without food and water security there will always be conflict. Without a doubt the spectre of climate change is exacerbating the situation, undermining the chances for peace and future prosperity.”

The concert, in association with Gagasi FM,  will be followed by the release of APE's fourth fundraising album: Rhythms Del Mundo: Africa, featuring Beyonce, Coldplay, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, REM, Mumford and Son, Fleet Foxes, Aloe Blacc and many more, together with some of Africa's finest musicians, including Toumani Diabate, Rokia Traore, Ali Farke Toure's band and Amadou & Mariam.  

If sales of APE's previous three albums are anything to go by, this new album will  help to raise hundreds of thousands of pounds for emergency famine relief and longer term solutions to the famines and natural disasters, that beset the world.

The festival heads to Durban’s Mr Price Kings Park Stadium on the 25th February 2012, boasting the biggest outdoor line-up of 80’s recording artists and performers ever seen in South Africa.

Lovers of 80’s music will be treated to the ultimate party as the city of Durban prepares for one of the biggest concerts in previous years, bringing in fans from all across the country to witness this once-off 80’s extravaganza.

Originally launched in the UK in 2009, the festival was a surprise success, attracting over 30 000 people.  In its second year the festival grew to sell-out capacity and saw the biggest line up of artists since Live Aid.  It has subsequently been touring the world to massive success.

South Africans will be treated to one of the most rocking line-ups in the festivals history.
