This song was such a blast to work on with my good friend @whosfry

This song started with a bass line riff I improvised on my guitar and it just went from there (it's actually the bass line you hear in the intro and outro). It was laying around for awhile until I sent it over to Fry who fired it back with a whole new sound palette and style. I took that and carved out an arrangement, added some flair, and here we are.

This song was in the beginning stages when I got the news that my grandpa was not expected to have much more time on Earth. They said he could have somewhere between 2 weeks and 2 months but less than one week later, he was gone. This song was my outlet during that time and I'd like to think I made it a proper send off for him.

Loss is a part of life, it is a strong emotion that will leave a void. But it also has a strange way of bringing people together, and that void is filled with the collective love and admiration we hold for the people that are gone. After all, the reason we miss them is because of all those good memories we have.

Anyway, thanks for listening and I hope this song can help you through anything you may be going through at this time.

I decided to name this track Highlights for a few reasons. Originally, it was because the lead synths are extremely bright sounding and remind me of warm, neon colors. But as the song progressed, I started to get a real nostalgic vibe from it and it made me think of good times in my life. So the term "Highlights" took on a new meaning in that context. In other words, I would say the theme of this song is that good times can come and go, but the good memories will remain, and we will always have those Highlights to look back on :)

Highlights

I've been dying to release this song since I wrote it! This song was made about a week into the quarantine and I love it. This song is about loneliness, but not in a negative sense. I know everybody feels lonely right now, everybody feels isolated, and everybody is scared of what the future will bring. However, we are not alone. There are tons and tons of people out there that feel the same way we do, and I find comfort in that. 

Long Story Short: We may feel lonely, but we are not alone. Hang in there! :)

This is a song about harboring your feelings inside, and how it feels to finally put them out in the open. As someone who used to eat my feelings, I know what it's like to close yourself off. That feeling that nobody can hurt you if you don't let them. 
I found that once I started being more open and honest about my thoughts and feelings, I started not only becoming more confident as a person, but I also was able to connect with many people I would call friends now as a result.

I hope this song can inspire you to let your feelings out and not feel like you can't express them. There's always someone who will listen and if not... make them ;)

So do me a favor and tell someone something you've always wanted to tell them today. I guarantee you, it will end up better than you think.

To sum it up in one word, this song is about catharsis :)
